Standard Product Underwriting Intern

About the Role: 

The intern will work in the Product Underwriting team contributing to projects and initiatives to further develop and maintain our Standard P&C and E&O propositions. By the end of the internship the individual will have gained thorough insight into main procedure steps of underwriting (risk assessment, form development and pricing), reporting and the collaboration with other insurance disciplines such as finance, actuarial pricing, contracts and data analytics.

The intern will support the team in the following areas:


  • Knowledge & Governance (populating and maintaining the Global Elevate Share-Point site)
  • Reporting (data collection for reporting purposes and data analytics)
  • Risk Appetite (supporting the build of an industry code mapping framework)
  • Contracts & Wordings (proof reading of policy documents)
  • System Build (monitoring outstanding user stories)


About the Team: 

The Standard Insurance Products team takes responsibility for the profitability of the Standard portfolios, ensures compliance with governance requirements and develops and maintains competitive insurance products. The business is underwritten in a standardized, system-supported way. The range of products include Property & Casualty for middle market customers, E&O for agents & lawyers, certain marine lines  and cyber insurance.


About You: 

We are looking for a bachelors student who is close to graduation majoring in either Risk Management, Finance, Business Administration or Communication. The individual should be proficient in MS Excel and have strong analytical skills. We are looking for a team player who is used working self-dependently.


For New York City, the base salary will be $20-$30 per hour, depending on location, qualifications, projected graduation year and/or highest degree held.
