About the Role

If so, we have an opportunity that could be just what you seek, to join our L&H team as the Head of Underwriting France.


You will be responsible for leading the French Underwriting Team based in Paris. You will play a key role to deliver on our strategy for France, balancing the global Swiss Re UW strategy with the market imperatives to help differentiate Swiss Re from its competition. You will listen to our clients' underwriting needs and your excellent interpersonal skills will ensure our clients feel our impact and ambition to establish Swiss Re Life and Health UW   as the partner of choice in the market.

You will be a key member of the cross functional team for the French market that delivers the full Underwriting suite of services and solutions and will advance Swiss Re's Global UW Strategy, which is to focus on revolutionary UW solutions by providing innovative insights as well as strengthening Swiss Re technical expertise within the market.


Your main responsibilities are to:

  • Drive the delivery of excellent Underwriting services and solutions including product development or process enhancements for your clients
  • Lead a team of 3 people in Paris-Promote the SR brand as both a technical expert and knowledge partner - through own actions plus coordination of other resources where applicable.
  • Support projects, product development and trainings within EMEA Underwriting Community.


In addition to some more traditional underwriting activities, you will:

  • Work closely with the operational underwriters servicing your clients and all other internal stakeholders to ensure optimal coordination and knowledge sharing across the region and globally
  • Provide inspirational leadership for the Underwriting Team, create excitement in the vision and mandate of Global UW Strategy and EMEA develops talent
  • Demonstrate a real spirit of collaboration across EMEA and within the cross functional team to deliver the joint mandate of the coordinated assurance functions.


This position could be based in Paris or Zurich and will report to the Head of Underwriting for France, Italy and Iberia. 


About You


  • Client orientated, always looking for the best outcome for the client
  • Very strong relationship building skills and develop a genuine passion for business relationship management at multiple levels with clients, business partners alike and internal stakeholders
  • A proven leader, experienced in leading staff across locations, cultures and backgrounds and able to operate in a matrix reporting structure
  • A good listener, also to what is not being said and can take an unpopular stand when necessary
  • At ease with leaving your comfort zone and performing under different priorities, you move conflicts to constructive debate and foster a culture of receiving and giving feedback
  • A change manager who remains effective during disruptive timesTruly motivated to develop, retain, and align talent with the Underwriting strategy
  • Significant work experience in re/insurance sector in underwriting roles across Europe (10+ years)., strong knowledge of the French market
  • Fluent in French and good in English
  • University degree preferable.
