About the role

We are looking for an experienced Life & Health Claims Specialist in Paris to support our Life & Health Claims Team supporting primarily the French market, while also contributing to the work and initiatives of our wider EMEA Claims team.


The opportunity includes:

  • Independent day-to-day assessment of Life & Health claims for Swiss Re clients in France, eg. providing the opinions on complex claim cases
  • Provide technically correct claims management decisions within authority while applying the appropriate balance of service and risk management.
  • Manage a portfolio of new and existing claims in accordance with Swiss Re’s claims philosophy, the Treaty, policy terms and agreed service standards
  • Demonstrate a strong partnership with clients and L&H colleagues.
  • Together with your colleague you will be the primary contact person for the Heads of Claims of designated clients and have meaningful interactions and discussions to assist in building a deep understanding of the client that allows us to align our claims interests and goals with those of the client.
  • Working closely with internal stakeholders like Client Markets, Underwriting, Actuarial and the wider Claims community, to share claims trends, analyse and interpret data and suggest appropriate interventions to improve the portfolio experience.
  • While your primary responsibility is to manage the inforce, where appropriate you will also provide support in tendering for new business, and in innovative product development.
  • Help to monitor the claims portfolio, performing client audits, and liaising with and supporting Business Management and other L&H colleagues in the active and cost-effective management of the business.
  • Record and maintain accurate claims data on Swiss Re systems, and contribute to business reporting.
  • Contribute effectively to business project and initiatives, and to value-add activities such as the development and roll-out of our Claims Solutions, and the preparation of seminars and training; promoting Swiss Re's claims profile and expertise.  
  • Enhance our operational excellence and comply with risk management guidelines and practices.
  • Identify market threats and opportunities
  • Support the day-to-day delivery of the claims value chain to clients in Continental Europe, communicating clearly with clients and enhancing relationships.  



About the team

Life & Health Business Management EMEA is responsible for managing the inforce business. There are teams leading Claims, Technical Accounting, Actuarial Management, and Portfolio Management activities. 


The successful candidate will be part of the EMEA Life & Health Claims Management team. We work collaboratively with our internal partners and client companies, sharing insights, building best practices and leveraging our global knowledge and expertise effectively. The team aims to actively manage the in-force business to deliver maximum shareholder value and to protect the L&H balance sheet.


You will directly report to the L&H Claims Manager currently responsible for France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Central Eastern Europe and work closely with/under the guidance of the Continental Europe claims colleague with primary responsibility for each market.


About You

  • Formal qualification or study in either business, financial services, law or medical discipline;
  • At least 5 years' experience in direct insurance or reinsurance claims management in France for life insurance, long term care and disability products
  • Deeply understanding of the French Life & Health insurance market
  • Claims management experience and understanding of other Continental European markets is beneficial.
  • Client relationship management experience and soft skills to carry out these responsibilities;
  • Training and presentation skills and experiences;
  • Data analytical skills;
  • Problem solving approach, taking ownership;
  • Demonstrated ability to explore new ideas, develop solutions, followed by effective implementation
  • Significant awareness of market and portfolio dynamics, including the ability to anticipate and mitigate potential risks and opportunities
  • An eye for detail with the ability to step back and consider the wider commercial perspective
  • Strong team player; sensitive to cultural differences; Enthusiastic;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Language skills: fluency in French. Good knowledge of English or other European languages are of advantage
