About the Role

In this role the Team Lead is responsible to develop and lead a team of Traditional Employer Stop Loss (ESL) underwriters, and in doing so, build and maintain a profitable portfolio of ESL business.

About the Team

Ideal candidates will develop and promote a high performance underwriting culture, where team members are passionate about client & broker-centricity, and long term profitable growth. We will lead all aspects of renewal and proposal activities of team members, ensuring that all underwriting guidelines and protocol are being followed. Raise referrals as letter of authority requires.

  • We will work closely with senior management to develop and execute underwriting protocol/guidelines/standards/workflow which optimize staff efficiently and product growth/profit.
  • Achieve targeted loss ratios, Rate to Formula and premium growth goals for Traditional ESL by maintaining underwriting discipline through the underwriting risk selection process.
  • Run projects as assigned by the management team with a special focus on those related to efficiency and risk selection tools.

About You

We are seeking individuals who, at a minimum, have a Bachelors degree or equivalent experience, a minimum of five years relevant Underwriting experience (strong UW experience in Employer Stop Loss and Managed Care products desired).

Individuals who have the ability to successfully assess risk and price accordingly based upon company models and guidelines combined with a strong business and financial acumen and excellent people leadership capabilities are strongly urged to apply.

  • Candidates with strong change leadership skills who enjoy operating collaboratively in a matrix organization are needed to help the team grow
  • Strong leadership 'presence' (experience interacting with clients and brokers as well as internal partners) and the ability to work independently are key to success in this role.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills (verbal and written) are needed to aid with negotiation of and follow up with production sources on outstanding quotes.
  • Work with Sales leaders to build block of business.
  • Keep abreast of current market conditions, including but not limited to: rates, terms & conditions, technology, competition, clients and trends.
