About the role

As a Senior Treaty Underwriter you will support our Regional Team to develop, underwrite and market profitable new and existing treaty business opportunities across both Property and Casualty lines of business.  This team specifically focuses on regional E&S carriers and program business opportunities working with fronting carriers and managing general agents.  You will be a key contributor in executing our Regional market strategy within a targeted client group; growing our market position and driving operational efficiency within the portfolio.

  • Originate and underwrite U.S.- domiciled property and casualty treaty business in compliance with the appropriate guidelines and within allocated authority while conforming to best practices and focusing on efficiency in approach.
  • There is a limited amount of costing/pricing smaller treaties that you manage in your portfolio.
  • Maintain and develop Swiss Re's relationships with assigned clients (including C-suite) in order to achieve the team and overarching Regional Team strategic and financial objectives.
  • Build and maintain broker and client professional network to support profitable business origination through the US broker market.
  • Take a holistic view in relation to allocated clients by ensuring an efficient service proposition that considers all business opportunities, and, utilize sound strategic decision-making as respects all aspects of assigned client and broker relationships.
  • Interact closely and collaborate with the broader internal cross-functional Team.
  • Track industry and market developments and raise these for strategic discussions with clients including a considered view as to how Swiss Re might help the client navigate the changes.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of the operations, structure, and issues regarding allocated clients, including the market environment.
  • Position includes considerable travel.

About the team

  • The Senior Treaty Underwriter will be part of the Broker Regional Team that focuses specifically on E&S carriers, program/fronting carriers and managing general agents.
  • This position can be filled in multiple offices including Armonk, Schaumburg, New York City, Chicago, Kansas City and other Hub locations.
  • An Assistant Vice President role would be considered for an otherwise qualified candidate.
     

About you

  • Minimum 5-10 years of re/insurance underwriting experience.
  • Extensive Property and Casualty underwriting, (experience in both Property & Casualty lines of business preferred)
  • Excellent understanding of the U.S. property and casualty insurance/reinsurance markets.
  • Understanding of reinsurance contract wording, certain legal knowledge or interest to develop this knowledge.
  • Knowledge about managing general agents and the program carrier market is a plus.
  • Strong focus on identifying client needs and flexibility in developing solutions.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit for developing new business opportunities and the desire to think innovatively and creatively.
  • Strong communication, negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage peak period workflows.
  • Effective strategic relationship management and portfolio management skills.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented and collaborative environment.
