About the Role

You will be the Associate Innovation Engineer (NLP) at iptiQ China. This is a rare opportunity to join a new business unit within an established company; combining the dynamic spirit of a startup with the backing of Swiss Re's strong organization. In this position, you will be a key member in charge of innovative projects which add values to our business, our partners and customers. Initially, you will be helping us to build NLP capabilities on our data platform. With a focus on business needs or self-driven, you will be the key contributor in creating data-driven solutions and innovations in NLP that can add significant business values.

Your responsibilities

  • Be a key contributor to business-oriented NLP innovations (dialogue system, domain knowledge graph etc.) as well as applying them into different business areas, including but not limited to marketing, risk control and operations.

  • Participate in the data platform architecture design and be responsible for the implementation of NLP related capabilities; Evaluate the existing tools and resources of the group and integrate them into data platform.

  • Communicate the NLP related requirements with business departments; focus on delivering values to business through NLP use cases or other outputs.

  • Be responsible for feature engineering of unstructured data for 360-degree customer label system and other structured data applications & modules.

  • Promote a collaborative culture encouraging business departments to jointly complete the implementation, tracking and continuous optimization of NLP use cases or other outputs.

  • Explore and study cutting-edge NLP issues; provide technical solutions that meet the future application scenarios and business needs; eliminate any potential risk.

  • Be familiar and alert with up-to-date practices, have high business sensitivity, and be able to solve business problems by innovative ways.

  • Coordinate cross-functional teams of external and internal stakeholders, data scientist / architect / engineers in the development and support of new solutions.

  • Agile collaboration with different functions across the Swiss Re organization and with external partners, especially with the APAC regional team and the global technology teams.


About You

You Have:

  • Bachelor's degree (Master preferred) in data science, computer science, statistics, information management, engineering or equivalent educational background.

  • 2+ years of experience in data science, data modeling, developing data products and services independently in insurance or other financial industry.

  • 2+ years of experience in NLP, deep understanding in NLP methodologies and algorithm, e.g. text classification, sequence labeling, information extraction, pre-trained model etc.

  • Hands-on NLP project experience, e.g.dialogue system, chatbot, knowledge graph construction etc.

  • Strong experience in Python/Shell and relevant ML/DL Framework, e.g. TensorFlow/Keras, PyTorch, Sklearn etc.

  • Published paper at the top-level NLP meetings (ACL, EMNLP, NAACL) is a plus.

  • Strong experience of building successful data driven technical solutions that add business values; understanding of the developing process and steps.

  • Understanding of the insurance industry in China and competitive knowledge of insurance technology landscape.

  • Good communication skills and business acumen, ability to communicate (both oral and written) technical components of NLP with non-technical stakeholders and external audiences clearly and effectively.

  • Highly analytical, using data to make decisions and comfortable gathering necessary data yourself.

  • Strong conceptual thinking combined with excellent problem-solving capabilities and an innovative mindset.

  • Results oriented. You can cut to the core of the problems, identify what needs to be done and work with the teams to get products launched.

  • An entrepreneurial attitude with ability to work in a fast-paced, flexible environment and manage multiple concurrent projects.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in Chinese Mandarin is a prerequisite, and fluency in English is a must.
