About the Role

You will be the Support Engineer for the technology platform within our iptiQ APAC Technology department. Support Engineer specializes in service delivery via cloud-based solutions such as SaaS and PaaS. This is a rare opportunity to join a new business unit within an established company; combining the dynamic spirit of a start-up with the backing of Swiss Re's strong organization. You will work closely in multi-functional teams to shape the technology platform that fulfil our business and product vision and ultimately bring value to our customers and partners by disrupting the traditional insurance proposition. This will require solving complex problems within a distributed infrastructure by designing simple, scalable, reliable and configurable solutions. You will play an important role in helping to foster a culture of technology excellence, automation and digitization to further enable and accelerate iptiQ growth ambitions.

Your responsibilities

  • Define and deliver our IT Operations strategy in close alignment with the technology team as well as various business partners to deliver outstanding client service

  • Ensure the platform can fulfill requirements of high concurrency and solid connectivity with extensive business partners

  • Ensure high degree of automation of our continuous integration & continuous development pipeline

  • Monitor and ensure availability, performance and security of our applications and take corrective actions to identify and handle incidents and restore our target values

  • Execute cloud oversight methodology in orchestration with Information Security, Compliance, Legal and Risk Management to ensure that all cloud-related operational risks are within risk appetite, legal and regulatory constraints, especially fully align to 'Financial application specification of cloud computing technology' published by PBC

  • Contribute to highly capable and empowered engineering teams responsible for designing and implementing large-scale distributed infrastructures in cloud computing platforms, with a focus on high-availability and continuous delivery solutions

  • Promote engineering excellence across the board, focusing on effective cross-function collaboration and end-to-end responsibility to ensure security, reliability, automation and maintainability of the infrastructure

  • Run mission critical services alongside product engineering teams promoting comprehensive monitoring of availability, latency, performance and core business metrics. Establish effective incident resolution and incremental adoption of fault-tolerant, self-healing solutions

  • Foster the implementation of department-wide processes and best practices to establish a culture of collaboration between engineering teams. This includes root-cause investigation within postmortems to improve the platform and prevent problem reoccurrence

  • Be able to impart technical information in a clear and concise manner

  • Facilitate Agile, DevOps process improvement, challenging existing practices and driving ideas and solutions that promote better ways of working


About you


You have a track record of being responsible for the IT Platform and Cloud Operations function

  • Hands-on 3+ years' experience in charge of AWS, AliCloud or Azure services, DevOps, Release Management and ITIL

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in delivering highly distributed, high-complexity concurrent systems

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering or equivalent working experience

  • Deep understanding of the implications and the thread-offs of different solutions with regards to performance, reliability, availability and security

  • Analytical and structured approach in analyzing and troubleshooting distributed architectures

  • Strong problem-solving mindset and collaborative approach to incidents mitigation, triage and resolution

  • Solid experience with cloud computing platforms (particularly AliCloud), applications containerization/orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, Istio), configuration management (Terraform, Ansible, Chef, Puppet) and implementing continuous development, delivery and deployment solutions (GIT, Gradle, Bazel/Pants/Buck, Jenkins, GoCD, TeamCity, Spinnaker ...) is preferred

  • Experience in software engineering in any modern language (Python, Go, Rust, Java, Kotlin, C++, C#) is a plus

  • Experience in CI/CD, test-drive-development (TDD) and automated testing will be a plus

  • Experience in best practices around IT security and in treatment sensitive customer data according to GDPR, CBIRC regulatory framework etc.

  • Understanding of the insurance industry in China, particularly P&C market.
