About the Role

 

Swiss Re will adopt IFRS in 2024 and you have an outstanding opportunity to join our project team!

Swiss Re has launched an IFRS Implementation project to both ensure compliance with the new IFRS 17 Insurance Contracts standard in all relevant local countries in 2023, as well as to modify our Group valuation from US GAAP to IFRS in 2024. With both the local and Group IFRS implementations coordinated into a single project structure, this position will have the opportunity to contribute to the local IFRS 17 focused implementation and the overall Group IFRS implementation. Swiss Re is also engaging with its clients regarding their IFRS 17 implementation and is seeking relevant business opportunities.

We are looking for an individual who is able to apply their subject matter expertise in analysing accounting policy choices, developing and executing an implementation strategy, including parallel runs of IFRS 17 results, supporting the Business As Usual teams. Also, the individual will apply his passion for clients by supporting the various client-facing teams in their IFRS 17 discussions. You will be encouraged to build significant technical knowledge and capabilities to plan and execute the operational implementation within the Swiss Re Reinsurance Business Unit (BU Re). Successful methodologies will require close coordination with your peers in the greater IFRS project team, as well as key partners in our Business As Usual teams.

Main tasks/activities:

•            Centrally coordinate, steer and contribute to the global assessment and implementation of IFRS in BU Re, including the implementation strategy across different Asia locations and the support the Business As Usual teams for the parallel runs to prepare for the Go-Live, with a focus on South Korea for the local implementation.

•            Work alongside client-focused functions (Client Markets, Products, Business Development) in identifying business opportunities and developing solutions for client concerns in their own IFRS development.

•            Work closely with Business Unit teams for Reinsurance, Corporate Solutions and Asset Management, as well as with Swiss Re Legal Entity or Branch teams.

•            Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts in Finance, Group Reporting and Business Management, as well as exposure to other functions (Products, Tax, etc.).

•            Collaborate with various key IT initiatives– Olympus (ATLAS/IETV) and GFTA.

•            Master various ad hoc deliverables for senior management including the BU CFOs, Chief Accounting Officer and other key project partners

About You

•            Preference for individuals with a recognised Actuarial qualification.

•            Strong knowledge of insurance and reinsurance products in L&H; minimum of 5 years of experience in an Actuarial valuation or related function.

•            Keen interest in the interpretation and application of accounting standards, and demonstrated ability to translate principles-based concepts into guidelines that can be implemented in test and production environments.

•            Exposure to existing IFRS, US GAAP and/or local statutory principles. Some knowledge of EVM or similar economic valuation frameworks will be considered to be an advantage.

•            Experience in activating projects in a diverse matrix landscape and effectively managing and delivering against multiple global priorities

•            Highly motivated with an ability to work in a collaborative environment

•            Strong analytical and organizational skills

•            Strong interpersonal skills and experience in dealing with internal and external partners

•            You have creative problem-solving skills, are an independent problem solver with a keen sense of pragmatism

•            Ability to work independently and remotely with people across locations and time zones

•            Language Skills - Strong verbal and written communication skills in English required - Other languages a plus

•            Position can be located in any of the Asian locations of Swiss Re.
