We are looking for graduates with strong analytical and interpersonal skills, who are eager to learn and broaden their knowledge and expertise. If you have a Bachelor degree or post-graduate qualification, with up to 3 years professional experience – we invite you to apply to our graduates@swissre programme 2021.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and result-oriented graduate to join our Property and Casualty Underwriting Team and Swiss Re Global graduate programme for 2021. You will be based in Sydney and will be part of a team responsible for underwriting renewal and new profitable treaty business, mainly originating out of the Australia & New Zealand market.

 

Your main responsibilities include (however, are not limited to):

 

  • Analysing new and renewal treaty programme submissions to identify key information for underwriting business
  • Evaluating the Treaty wording contract for compliance with Swiss Re requirements as well as proposes changes where needed
  • Using appropriate underwriting tools, models and quantitative pricing methodologies
  • Collaborating with other teams when necessary, such as Actuarial, Claims and Legal
  • Following underwriting guidelines and renewal messages; following best practice recommendations as appropriate
  • Escalating cases exceeding underwriting authority in accordance with referral procedures
  • Making decisions on final structure, share, premium/rates, terms and conditions, jointly with the respective Client Manager
  • Seeking out new opportunities for underwriting treaty business
  • Supporting the Underwriting Head in monitoring the risk landscape to ensure that Swiss Re’s underwriting strategy is aligned with the risk environment
  • Managing files and effectively using the Business Process Management system

Working closely within cross functional teams, and with our clients, we combine experience with expertise and innovative thinking, to create value-adding opportunities and solutions.

 

About You

  • Bachelor degree or post-graduate level qualification in relevant field, such as mathematics, statistics, actuarial, sciences, finance, economics, engineering
  • Up to three years' professional work experience in the insurance sector is advantageous, but not a pre-requisite
  • Analytical proficiency and proactive problem-solving approach
  • Adaptable and agile to a changing environment
  • Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Capability to work collaboratively in a team environment and also independently
  • Ability to build valuable relationships with clients and brokers
  • Solid negotiation and influencing skills
  • Robust adherence to underwriting practices and guidelines
  • Proficient use of business applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Power BI)
