About the Role

To supplement and further strengthen our capabilities in the APAC region, we are looking for a Senior Risk Engineer with specific expertise in general liability with profound experience in safety management well as in industrial processes and operations.


The main duties of this position are to strengthen our General Liability risk Engineering Services offering in Australia, develop our consulting business for General liability exposures provided to clients and to assist our underwriting team's internal risk selection process.


The focus of this role will be on risk analysis, providing risk insights and services to our customers and underwriters in Public & Products liability which requires a sound understanding of all elements of General liability risks.


The position is based in Australia (either Melbourne or Sydney).


About the Team

You will join Risk Engineering Services (RES), an integral element of Underwriting within Swiss Re Corporate Solutions. We enable thorough risk assessment and risk insights along the insurance value chain. Our team of industry specialists is located all around the world, dedicated to support our clients and all internal business functions with profound expertise and risk knowledge.


About You


  • Ideally 8+ years of professional experience: industrial experience, preferably in general manufacturing, warehousing & logistics, Engineering & fabrication, transportation, machinery, and or food/hospitality and operations.
  • A solid understanding of OH&S, premises safety controls, Operational Risk mitigation Contractor/Sub Contractor inductions & training, Quality control procedures & measures, Accreditations (ISO's, HACCP, Licensing etc) are essential.
  • Experience in loss control and/ or risk engineering in insurance is a strong plus.
  • Engineering background: university degree in mechanical-, process-, chemical-, general engineering or related subject area. Bachelor (BSc) - (minimum requirement) or Master of Science (MSc).
  • Applied experience in OH&S/EHS (ideally 3+ years) in industrial setting or commercial setting with high human traffic flow. Registered safety officer and/or equivalent recognized certification in OH&S area is a distinct advantage.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communications skills, additional language skills advantageous.
  • Detail-oriented, superior organisational and time management skills, including an ability to multi-task and work independently with minimal direction.
  • Experience in an international business environment working with internal and external with clients: interdisciplinary orientation preferred.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural, remote team environment within a matrix organisation.
  • Demonstrated strong influence management and interpersonal relations skills.
  • Proficient problem solving and process management capabilities; willingness to constantly broaden and enhance own scope of expertise according to business needs.
  • Deep knowledge of digital office tools and basic knowledge in data analytics.
  • Willingness to travel (mainly ANZ and within APAC region occasionally).
