About the Role

We are seeking a Japanese [Senior] Contracts Specialist to join our Corso Contracts team. The role requires product development, licensing, legal and General insurance experience, including regulatory negotiation. The role will be based in Tokyo, Japan, but your work environment will be international.

 

We are looking for a motivated individual who:

•    Has
a legal or commercial General insurance background
•    Is a native Japanese speaker; proficiency in English and any further languages will be an asset
•    Has at least five years General insurance experience in the Japanese market
•    Has experience working with the full range of commercial insurance lines of business, especially Property, Casualty and FinPro

•     Has experience in supporting the development and licensing of new general insurance products, with legal advice on wordings (experience in international business (Global programs) and large and innovative risk transactions and structured solutions would be an advantage)

•   Has experience in insurance agency administration such as registration and inspection

The role will be responsible for reviewing and drafting insurance contract wordings and related documents mainly for the Japanese
General insurance market, with opportunities to support other Asia and global markets, as necessary.

 

Researching insurance contract law questions as well as Japanese (FSA) licensing and regulations, assisting in developing and communicating company positions on contract wording issues and training internal clients will be important parts of your role.

 

In addition, you will work closely and collaboratively with local Legal & Compliance and participate in reviews of business divisions to ensure compliance with internal Contracts processes and rules as well as with applicable law.

 

And you will have the opportunity to contribute to various local and global projects, including in the areas of digitalization and contract governance.

 

About the Team

We are a virtual and highly engaged team of Contracts Specialists located across Asia Pacific and globally. The Asia Pacific Contracts team is part of the global Contracts function and embedded in the underwriting division of Corporate Solutions. Our daily work consists of advising internal clients on insurance wordings and clauses for domestic and international insurance

 

We support Corporate Solutions' (re)insurance business (including international business), in the areas of property, casualty, and special lines of business such as director's and officer's liability, professional indemnity, energy, engineering and construction insurance. We work closely with our Underwriters, Client Managers and Product Experts and occasionally with external clients. Our mission is to provide legally sound yet pragmatic advice that enables high quality wording solutions for our clients. For that purpose, we openly share knowledge and engage closely with team colleagues as well as with other corporate functions, such as Legal, Compliance and Claims. In addition, we contribute to digital contract transformation and contract governance projects.

Application Requirements

  • University degree(s) – preferably law
  • Fluency in both written and spoken Japanese (including legal and business terminology) and proficiency in English
  • At least five years' experience in an Underwriting, Broking, Claims, or Legal/Contracts role with an existing network in the local Japan General insurance industry
  • Good knowledge and understanding of insurance products and relevant industry and market customs and practices in Japan
  • New product development and licensing experience in the General insurance market in Japan
  • You must also:
