About the Role:

The Property Complex unit handles all individual risk submissions for facultative business in North America through both the broker and direct channels.  We are looking for a for a high producing Facultative Property Underwriter to work with a diverse group of clients in a channel neutral environment.  Reporting into the Team Lead for Property Complex Single Risk Facultative in Canada, you will handle a significant volume of submissions with a focus on business from global carriers, taking a portfolio approach to the business and leveraging current and future underwriting initiatives and tools.

  • The role will entail efficiently underwriting a large volume of Property accounts with an emphasis on large TIV business, for all industry segments including heavy industries and Energy.  
  • Whilst doing so, you will maintain underwriting quality and profitability of the Property Complex Single Risk Fac portfolio.
  • An important part of the role will be to originate business fitting Swiss Re's risk appetite through senior level direct client and broker interaction.
  • You will contribute to the execution of an effective marketing plan to ensure a high level of new submission activity.

About You:

  • You hold a bachelor's degree in Business or related field speaking to your financial acumen
  • You ideally have 7-10 years of single risk underwriting experience with current property underwriting authority; primary insurance experience in large/national account segment a strong plus as is experience in Mining, Power Gen, and OPG industries
  • You have some familiarity with complex/technical risks, review of technical reports, account pricing and nat. cat. modeling
  • Any experience you have in Program business underwriting would be very valuable to our team
  • You thrive on your analytical and organizational skills
  • You are an outstanding teammate who can also work independently and takes responsibility for making decisions
  • You are enthusiastic, solution and results-orientated, curious to learn and enjoy working in a dynamic, entrepreneurial team environment
  • You enjoy the art of negotiation and have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • You don't mind travelling when the job requires you to.

 

About the Team

Our team in Canada is responsible for Swiss Re's Property and Casualty facultative book for Canada and the English Caribbean markets.  The team underwrites all facultative transactions in these markets, originates and underwrites tailored reinsurance solutions for key clients and supports the overall objective of the Facultative Americas team to be the market leader in North America.  Our team of underwriters are dynamic and empowered, allowing for enhanced personal growth and professional development.
