About the Role:

The position reports to the Valuation Controller, Actuarial Management L&H Canada and expected to gradually allow for more latitude in decision-making.The position supports multiple projects/deliverables within the Canadian actuarial management team, which include: AXIS model investigations, review of transactions, review of internal controls and support of external audit, preparation of LICAT, ORSA/FCT, capital planning and forecasts. The position does not have formal direct reports and not accountable for any budget.

 

The incumbent is expected to be an integral part of the valuation team and to have a strong background in a corporate actuarial environment. Familiarity with Moody's AXIS and Canadian Actuarial Standards is highly preferred.  

 

About the Team 

The Life & Health Actuarial Management Canada team is comprised of approximately 25 actuarial students/qualified actuaries split evenly across two locations: Toronto and Bangalore. The actuarial team is responsible for valuation and financial reporting for multiple reporting bases, including (but not limited to) local Canadian IFRS, USGAAP and Economic Value.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Actively support regulatory capital deliverables: LICAT quarterly submission, ORSA/FCT, quarterly capital forecasts and capital plan development
  • Perform AXIS model investigations and support valuation models enhancements
  • Become the main point of contact for external audit queries
  • Support model and assumption review in the context of inforce business transactions
  • Perform quarterly review of internal actuarial controls
  • Contribute to experience studies and annual assumption updates as needed
  • Review and enhance existing process documentation
  • Become a "simplification" champion – find ways to streamline existing processes
  • Support and train more junior staff/co-op student(s)

 

About You:

 

  • University degree in mathematics or actuarial science
  • Recent FSA or near FSA
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant work experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in a corporate actuarial environment  
  • Proficient user of Moody's AXIS
  • Knowledge of LICAT and Canadian IFRS is preferred
  • Knowledge of embedded value is beneficial
  • Ability to work independently and in a team to contribute to the successful delivery of time-sensitive projects
  • Detail and deadline oriented
