About the Team:

Supporting the General Property business in the Corporate Solutions, North America Property, Canada Region, you will be part of a team of experienced underwriters, focused on profit-oriented underwriting of new and existing accounts and on building relationships with key partners in the large corporate and middle-market risk segments.

 

About the Role:

  • This is a production underwriting position responsible for handling and supporting the administration of large global structured programs, as well as other shared/layered and 100% single-carrier (ground-up) property programs.
  • Accounts vary from upper middle market to large risk managed programs with purchased limits amongst the highest on offer in the Canadian Market.
  • Your experience in developing Lead offerings for both complex structured programs and 100% single carrier business will add value to this role as will your experience in analyzing natural catastrophe perils and risk hazards in complex fire-driven occupancies
  • The role entails detailed risk analysis, with evaluation of exposures and coverage review of both new and renewal submissions, using Swiss Re tools and systems.   Proposals to be prepared in accordance with and adhering to internal guidelines, including detailed review of contract language
  • You will be required to establish and maintain specific industry know-how whilst communicating effectively to the market and representing Swiss Re Corporate Solutions in meetings with clients, brokers and other SR Group entities
  • The role requires strong teamwork and collaboration with colleagues, with the opportunity for coaching of less experienced underwriters.

 

About You:

  • Educational background: University degree or equivalent with a strong business component preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of insurance, commercial property underwriting, and the Canadian property insurance market
  • Experience in International Program business underwriting and design
  • Minimum 10 years underwriting experience or equivalent
  • Ability to utilize underwriting tools and applications
  • Business sense, service mindset and entrepreneurial spirit with a strong sense of ownership and a focus on execution – strong negotiation skills are important
  • Client-centric with a forward, dedicated style anticipating customer future needs
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Extensive broker contacts a plus
  • Experience underwriting diverse industries
  • Willingness and ability to travel within the region, and air travel for client/broker meetings, as needed
  • Willingness to cope with workload peaks
  • Ability to work well with teams and groups in multiple offices across organizational boundaries
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of integrity and credibility
  • Fluency in English, French would be an asset.
