About the Programme

We are looking for graduates with strong interpersonal skills, who are eager to learn and broaden their knowledge and expertise. You have a Bachelor, Master or PhD degree with up to 3 years professional experience – we invite you to apply to our graduates@swissre programme 2022.  The programme offers you the chance to join the dynamic, fast-moving world of a leading risk knowledge organisation. Over an 18-month period, you’ll receive on-and-off-the-job training, including a job rotation that gives you the opportunity to work across different business units.


About the role

  As a Data Science Graduate you will join a team of actuaries, data scientists, underwriters, and business experts to work on a strategic initiative to more efficiently and effectively leverage both internal data sources as well as data from clients and third parties to better understand the evolving risk profile of business written in the Americas. You will work closely with business stakeholders to identify opportunities for leveraging data to drive business solutions, understand the business problem, improving the digestion and cataloguing of data and extract relevant trends and patterns from data.  

 You will help the team shape, develop, and execute complex analytic solutions that will transform the insurance industry. You will gain exposure to projects that leverage cutting edge technology and new data sources to solve new and emerging problems for Swiss Re and Swiss Re's clients.



  • Work with a business team to analyze data sets and design analytical solutions
  • Build industry knowledge
  • Communicate findings that help support solving business problems, insight generation and decision making
  • Develop custom data models and algorithms to apply to datasets
  • Build end to end big data pipelines from data ingestion to insight generation
  • Check to ensure consistency, integrity and robustness of data pipelines
  • Manage code base and git repository in the development platform  


About the team


You will join a technical team supporting Life & Health business in the Americas comprised of actuaries, underwriters, data scientists and others who bring diverse technical and business backgrounds and are all passionate about solving the problems of tomorrow. As a part of this team, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues in Canada, the United States, and Latin America.  


About You

  • Pursuing your Final year of Bachelors/Masters/PhD degree preferably in Data Science/Analytics, Computer Science, Computational Linguistics or related field with an expected graduation prior to September 2022.
  • Strong interest in/motivation to learn about insurance/reinsurance
  • Analytical & conceptual skills to understand key business needs and design tailored solutions to solve specific business problems.
  • Proficient in Python and or R, SQL; Familiarity with SAS is an asset  
  • Exposure or experience in areas such as information retrieval, natural language processing, data analytics and information visualization.
  • Basic understanding of statistical analysis
  • Approaches problems with curiosity and open-mindedness, is a fast learner
  • Innovative showing a high degree of own initiative
  • Team-player, willingness to contribute actively to the overall team spirit, with a "can do" attitude
  • Ability and enthusiasm to work in a global and multicultural environment
  • Able to work with clients, business partners or senior colleagues
  • Capacity to readily adapt to a changing and dynamic environment
  • Proven expertise to work independently and proactively
  • Strong analytical skills and can focus on details without losing track of the bigger picture
  • Excellent oral and written English skills; additional language skills are desired, in particular Spanish proficiency to communicate with clients
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional academic performance (minimum 3.25 GPA).
