About The Role

Come partner with us and join a strong team of valuation and financial reporting specialists. We make the world more resilient by managing the Canadian Life & Health reinsurance business balance sheet, optimizing the capital in support of the Canadian business, and by exploring new data analytics and approaches to gain further insights into L&H business.

You will be an integral part of the valuation team and have a strong background in a corporate actuarial or valuation team environment. You will have project management skills including experience managing projects from end-to-end.  As a seasoned actuary, you are comfortable challenging analysis and reports e.g. to identify areas for further investigation, improved clarity etc.


About The Team

The role is within the Actuarial Management Canada (AMC) team which is part of the L&H Business Management Americas division, which manages our Life & Health reinsurance business. The AMC team has approximately 25 colleagues spanning multiple geographic locations. You will have the opportunity to lead projects thereby contributing to the achievement of team goals and add to team spirit.

The AMC team manages multiple reporting bases, conducts experience study analysis and completes the associated assumption development and basis changes. Other team projects and deliverables include LICAT, FCT, ORSA and IFRS17. As part of the valuation team you will also contribute to year end reporting requirements including AAR, audit and peer review requirements.


Core Responsibilities

 

  • Lead projects within the Canadian valuation team e.g. FCT, ORSA, experience/assumption reviews. Including project management, documentation and reporting writing.
  • Review and update existing controls and documentation – both procedural and higher-level control-focused process documentation. Support the team to remediate areas requiring improvement.
  • Familiarity with modelling, experience studies and assumption setting is required.
  • Contribute to the broader team development including coaching of actuarial students and recent fellows in the completion of tasks to support projects.
  • Support other projects and initiatives as needed, including corporate initiatives and client-related projects.
  • Involvement with Canadian insurance industry committees.

 

 

About You

  • University degree in mathematics or actuarial science
  • FCIA with minimum 5 years post fellowship and 10 years in the life insurance industry
  • Relevant background in a Corporate Actuarial environment including financial reporting, valuation, modelling and audit/peer Review
  • Strong analysis and communication skills (verbal and written) are essential
  • Good leadership and team-building skills
  • Knowledge of LICAT and Canadian IFRS-4; other reporting bases including US GAAP and IFRS-17 are an asset
  • Detail and deadline oriented, with a focus on results
