About The Role 

We are looking for a Senior Actuarial Analyst to support the US Group & Health valuation unit with reporting requirements under US GAAP, US Statutory and Swiss Re Group reporting requirements. You will contribute to the quarterly reserving process & analysis, and assist in developing actuarial models and assumptions associated with US A&H business with particular focus on US long term disability (DI) and long term care (LTC) lines of business.

This is a 2-year rotating position within the actuarial development program at Swiss Re. 

Key responsibilities include:


  • Assist with quarterly analysis and financial reporting, with particular focus on understanding US GAAP and US Statutory results for the Group & Health block
  • Working closely with Pricing team on reserving for new business deals
  • Working with Technical Accounting and Claims colleagues to capture data requirements for appropriate financial reporting and experience analysis/reporting functions for disability business
  • Collaborate with offshore production team to produce quarterly valuation and financial results.  Mentor junior employees and manage co-op/intern workload.
  • Development and maintenance of the AXIS valuation/modeling system for DI and LTC business
  • Performing data, statistical and trend analysis and monitor experience necessary for the effective management of health blocks of business
  • Perform experience studies and assumption reviews using R programming
  • Support team-wide or global strategies, such as IFRS17 projects, as required

About You:

  1. ASA, or soon-to-be ASA actively pursuing your FSA designation.  
  2. Minimum 3 years of experience in an actuarial-related function
  3. Experience working with cross-functional teams and/or with multiple stakeholders in a fast pace environment
  4. Strong analytical skills with experience working in MS Excel and R analytics.
  5. Strong written/verbal English communication skills,
  6. Experience with Axis or other actuarial valuation software an asset
  7. Experience working with disability and/or health insurance products is an asset

About the Team

Reporting into the VP, Actuary, you will be an integral member of the US L&H Valuation team which comprises over 20 actuaries. This sub-team within US Actuarial Management is responsible for the valuation and reporting of U.S. Stat, GAAP, EVM and Tax reserves for the company's US group & health business.
