About the Role


We are looking for a Senior Actuarial Analyst to support the Swiss Re Canada valuation team with statutory and economic actuarial valuations – including coordination and validation of basis changes; coordination to support quarter end reporting requirements; audit and peer review and capital planning/forecasts.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Taking the lead on actuarial reporting for inforce and new business – on multiple regulatory and economic bases - including completion of quarterly procedures, reports and analysis to explain the results to senior management – collaborating with internal partners in Toronto and globally
  • Improving and streamlining the actuarial reporting processes, including testing and leading change requests and enhancements to the global actuarial system landscape
  • Supporting sensitivity analysis, loss recognition testing, asset liability management analysis
  • Providing ad-hoc analysis to "external" partners e.g. reinsurance partners, Inforce Management
  • Preparing and updating process documentation as necessary and maintaining and completing controls associated with quarterly valuation processes
  • Coordinating with auditors for actuarial reviews
  • Coordinating projects and workflow of more junior staff as required.

About You

  • You will be a recent FSA (or equivalent) or near FSA (or equivalent) with strong experience in a corporate actuarial environment including basis changes, financial reporting systems/processes and audit/peer review
  • Your strengths will be your analytical and communication skills
  • Your technical skills will include GGY AXIS modelling skills, Microsoft Office and database skills

  • Project management skills to coordinate workflow are an asset
  • Having knowledge of embedded value and Canadian regulatory financial reporting requirements is an asset
  • University degree in mathematics or actuarial science

About the Team

You will be an integral member of the Canada Actuarial Management Life & Health team which comprises approximately 20 actuaries and report into the Vice President & Actuary. The team is responsible for valuation and financial reporting for multiple reporting bases, including (but not limited to) local Canadian IFRS, USGAAP and Economic Value.
