About the role

Are you a passionate Medical Insurance Doctor who values the critical contribution that underwriting makes to L&H insurance? Do you get excited by transforming research into tangible commercial value? Do you have a passion to publish research, teach and present within the insurance industry?  If so, we have an opportunity that could be just what you seek, to join our L&H team as Senior Medical Officer – UW R&D.

 

 

As our Senior Medical Officer – UW R&D, you will help to strengthen Swiss Re's market leadership as a knowledge company across the L&H UW value chain. You will deliver leading-edge medical research on trends and approaches that help differentiate Swiss Re underwriting from the competition. You will assist Swiss Re to be the untouchable leader in L&H UW medical research topics (relevance, frequency and meaningfulness), with firm views on the what the future holds.  You will play a role of brand ambassador for Swiss Re UW in North America.

 

Your main responsibilities are to

  • Help drive UW development, innovation and "blue-sky" underwriting, as well as new solutions
    • R&D of new medical trends, risks, treatments
    • Focus on the interplay of medicine, data analytics, risk, technology, products etc.
    • Strong collaboration with internal stakeholders
    • Support development of underwriting standards, guidelines on new topics
  • Deliver business, thought leadership and brand-relevant positioning (from the R&D team) as Medical Subject Matter Expert in North America
    • Publish articles with actionable insights and innovations that help our clients manage risk and grow
    • External visibility via social media, LinkedIn blogs etc.
    • Media responses and interviews to hot medical topics in the region
    • Support SR at regional and global SR and industry events through key topic presentations
  • Support global L&H projects or initiatives e.g.
    • Critical Illness definitions; including reviews and propose changes; educate internally and externally and create documentation to support changes, and to assist others to train and present on changes and risks
    • Annual Life Guide Client Roadshow in market alongside local team to promote evidence-based research and changes for annual release
    • Be part of a global Life Guide peer review group
  • Contribute to the market image of Swiss Re as a thought leader and knowledge company

 

 

About you

  • medical degree by recognised university
  • deep knowledge in the areas of L&H insurance medicine (at least 10 years' experience)
  • excellent command of spoken and written English with other Asian languages
  • prior research experience and published articles
  • an agile self-starter, innovator and curious researcher
  • powerful impact with excellent written and verbal communication 
  • excellent stakeholder management skills, including ability to build rapport and respect of peers and clients
  • innovative personality who can think outside the traditional research box
