About the Team:

Supporting the General Property business in the Corporate Solutions, North America Property, Canada Region, and reporting into the Western Leader, you will be based in Vancouver and part of a team of experienced underwriters, focused on profit-oriented underwriting of new and existing accounts and on building relationships with key partners in the large corporate and middle-market risk segments.

 

About the Role:

  • Develop and maintain a relationship with your clients which includes regular, effective communication as well as any portfolio specific issues
  • Profitably grow and maintain a book of business, paying particular attention to severity, loss ratio, and profile of business written
  • Prepare internal reviews on new and renewal business, quotations, and offers proposals in accordance with guidelines
  • Assist in the timely issuance of binders and policies as well as the timely collection of premium
  • Learns and Uses SR tools and systems for the development of terms and conditions
  • Enters and maintains risk information into the various information systems and administers the accounts
  • Establishes and maintains specific industry sector know-how whilst communicating effectively to the market and representing Swiss Re Corporate Solutions in meetings with client, brokers and other SR Group entities
  • You will prepare proposals in accordance with and adhering to internal guidelines and review, assess and negotiate contract language.

 

About You:

  • Educational background: University degree or equivalent with a strong business component preferred
  • In depth knowledge of insurance, commercial property underwriting, and the property insurance market, specifically, the Canadian Region territory – minimum of 3-5 years underwriting experience or equivalent
  • Ability to lead internal (technical/organisational) and/or external (market/client development) projects
  • Experience and understanding of NatCat and man-made risk management, loss-prevention and underwriting
  • Ability to profitably underwrite structured programs: primary, excess and quota share as well as ground-up property programs.
  • Solid negotiation skills and ability to cross sell SR’s product offering
  • Business and client focus with proven business impact
  • Strong analytical/logical thinking skills
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills
  • Strong industry reputation
  • Knowledge and proficiency in the use of underwriting tools, applications, and guidelines
  • Understands legal/regulatory issues, filings and form development
  • Keeps abreast of market environment and trends
  • Ability to work well with teams and groups in multiple offices across organizational boundaries
  • Fluency in English, French would be an asset.
