About the role

You will be working in the Economic Reporting team within Group Finance. The Economic Value Management (EVM) framework is used to measure value creation and steer the company, including planning, pricing, reserving and asset and liability management. It applies capital market pricing techniques to value insurance operations, and is the framework used as the basis for economic-based regulatory reporting such as the Swiss Solvency Test (SST) or Solvency II.  This position offers an opportunity to gain deep insights on the principles of modern, economic-based insurance valuation and accounting frameworks and understand the value chain of the re/insurance business.

Be directly involved in the production of the EVM financial information for Swiss Re. Your daily work will involve close interaction with finance and actuarial teams to support the production of the financial information for the Life & Health (L&H) Reinsurance business segment. You will provide accurate and timely financial analysis and support to internal partners.

We would like you to join and support our Economic Reporting team!

In this position, you will:

•    support the review of the L&H Reinsurance underwriting results and the financial analysis of the drivers behind these results
•    assist in providing commentaries on EVM performance related to the L&H Reinsurance business segment to senior management 
•    establish positive relationships with internal stakeholders such as the Finance Reinsurance Accounting & Reporting team, Finance Accounting Technical L&H and the regional L&H actuarial teams
•    contribute to the Swiss Solvency Test (SST) reporting process as required
•    build knowledge of SST valuations and economic value measurement for underwriting and investment activities and understand the difference to traditional valuation approaches (US GAAP, IFRS and statutory accounting) 
•    get involved with and gain expertise of IFRS17 topics
•    take on smaller projects and drive these forward independently


About the team

Economic Reporting is a team of around 15 people located in Zurich. We work closely together with the Economic Valuation & Methodology team of around 10 people located in Zurich and Bratislava. We are an open-minded group from diverse backgrounds working together to produce high-quality EVM financial information. Besides the regular reporting tasks, we may support with transaction reviews, provide training to internal stakeholders and be involved in various ad hoc projects.

About You

•    University degree or advanced degree in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Actuarial studies, Physics, Economics (ideally with focus on corporate finance) etc
•    Previous experience in Finance, Financial Analysis, Actuarial or Risk Management in the re/insurance industry, ideally in the L&H area
•    Actuarial knowledge, ideally progressing towards actuarial qualification (e.g. SAV, FIA, FSA, DAV)
•    Knowledge of economic valuation principles, in particular in the context of L&H re/insurance; awareness and understanding of other valuation bases is a plus
•    Analytical mindset with strong quantitative skills, with proven ability to think and work independently, as well as the ability to handle both conceptual and practical issues
•    Ability to deliver high-quality work under time pressure, meeting the needs of multiple stakeholders, and to work independently
•    Excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills
•    Solid Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel and PowerPoint. Knowledge of Python would be a plus
•    Very good command of English (excellent written and verbal skills)
