About the role

In your role as an Analytics Engineer in SRI, you collaborate with data engineers, business analysts and product owners to build impactful products across a broad range of business challenges, such as portfolio strategy, cyber, natural catastrophes and beyond. Your key responsibilities are

  • Data Exploration & Consulting: Acting as a connector between business and data, advising on how best to use data and analytics to improve business outcomes
  • Data Modelling: Building a user-centric data asset that is modelled around how our business understands the data
  • Application Development & Data Visualization: Building impactful applications to support key business processes
  • Product Management: Coach our business partners to become strong product managers, following best practices in lean agile development

About the team

In your role as a Junior Analytics Engineer you will join the ranks of the Analytics Engineering Chapter, a diverse team of 5 junior to senior Analytics Engineers based in Switzerland. The team, along with other tech teams in data, application & solution engineering and beyond, is part of Swiss Re Institute InfoTech, a young and growing department of 100 tech professionals across multiple locations, serving a global customer basis. We support the Swiss Re Institute, a key differentiating component of Swiss Re, focussing on Research & Development to ensure our capabilities remain cutting edge, we maintain underwriting excellence and incubate new business models, products, and services

About You

  • Successfully completed university degree, preferably in a quantitative background (i.e Mathematics, Physics, Data Science, Engineering or similar)
  • Strong interest in learning about insurance & reinsurance
  • Extensive experience in analyzing data and drawing conclusions
  •  Solid understanding of Python / Apache Spark (i.e Pyspark) demonstrated in multiple projects. Other programming languages as (Java, C++, R) are a plus.
  • Previous experience with data modelling concepts and working with data pipelines is required (e.g. SQL).
  • Experience in developing analytical applications by handling the end-to-end realization (i.e identification of the client need, ideation, planning, development, roll-out) is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience in advanced analytics (i.e. Machine Learning, Statistics, Econometrics) is a plus
  • Strong analytical skills and focus on details without losing track of the bigger picture
  • Innovative, showing a high degree of own initiative
  • Mature & self-confident; able to work with clients, business partners or senior colleagues
  • Very good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent oral and written English skills; additional language skills advantageous but not required.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
