About the role


The power of data is raising across our industry – and leaves an increasing impact on the way we look at risks in Aviation and Political Violence (PV). Whilst Swiss Re continues to expand its own data pools, we also expand our use of information provided by external sources – including our clients. In this role, you will work on two specific data-related endeavors:
Aviation: Take over responsibility for the enhancement of an existing PowerBI report that provides insights from an immense pool of global airlines data. Your work will allow the Aviation Underwriters to better understand our client's portfolio and particularities – down to each individual airline all over the globe! 
Political Violence: Swiss Re has access to a vast amounts of structured and unstructured data – which we currently don't use to its full potential. You will conduct thorough analysis of such data and build an analytics platform to help our PV Underwriters identifying trends and patterns that impact our reinsurance offer.
During both projects, you will work very closely with the respective underwriting teams to learn about the principles of our business and to translate data into tangible insights.


About the team


You will be part of Swiss Re's Special Lines innovation team along with four other interns working on a variety of innovation topics related to the insurance industry. The purpose of the innovation team is to inspire a collaborative environment, encouraging new ideas, exchange, and dialogue.
For this specific project, you will work with our global Aviation & Political Violence team. Embedded in Reinsurance – Property & Specialty, our team of dedicated experts focuses on underwriting aviation, space, and political violence treaty and facultative reinsurance products worldwide.


About you


  • Excellent analytical skills - a degree in computational sciences, statistics, mathematics, quantitative finance or physics is a plus
  • Program skills in one of the following languages would be an advantage: R, VBA, Matlab, Javascript, Python
  • Experience in working with Microsoft PowerBI is advantageous
  • Excellent oral and written English
  • Curiosity for the aviation insurance industry
  • Reliable, open-minded, creative and enthusiastic
  • Teammate who naturally brings individuals together as needed, across countries and functions
  • Delivers high quality work also under pressure


Duration of internship: 4-6 months, starting March 2021!
