Intern Emerging Risk Management

 About Swiss Re

Swiss Re is one of the world’s leading providers of reinsurance, insurance and other forms of insurance-based risk transfer, working to make the world more resilient. We anticipate and manage a wide variety of risks, from natural catastrophes and climate change to cybercrime.

At Swiss Re we combine experience with creative thinking and cutting-edge expertise to create new opportunities and solutions for our clients. This is possible thanks to the collaboration of more than 13,000 employees across the world.

We offer a flexible working environment where curious and adaptable people thrive. Are you interested in joining us?

About the role

The Emerging Risk Team at Swiss Re has the task to identify all risks – ranging from natural perils to technological, societal, political and economic developments. The results of this process are published internally in Emerging Risk Maps and externally in the Swiss Re Sonar Report on Emerging Risks.

We are looking for an intern to support us in particular on the following three areas:

  • The Swiss Re Emerging Risk Map
  • A review of the impact of emerging risks identified in the past decade
  • Further automation of emerging risk clustering and their mapping to specific business areas

You will work with internal partners (underwriters, client managers, asset managers) and colleagues at different levels of hierarchy in fulfilling this function.

About the team

Our Emerging Risk Group has the task to scan the horizon for future risks and developments, to assess the impact on Swiss Re, and enable integrated and forward-looking decision-making. We thus play a strong role in early warning, risk mitigation and thought leadership.

The team has the responsibility to capture early risk notions as well as to assess and monitor the emerging risk landscape, its drivers and its impact on the re/insurance industry. As a small Zurich-based team with different backgrounds, we act as a catalyst for emerging risk identification. We coordinate a network for early signal detection and qualitative risk assessments across geographies and risk disciplines.
Our function helps to ensure Swiss Re's profitability and long-term growth over time. We help the business not only steer away from risks that could destabilise us, but we also identify risks worth taking, in existing or even new risk pools.

We contribute to risk taking by building risk transparency, leveraging our knowledge and experience, and bringing an independent, global and long-term perspective. In this way, we protect Swiss Re's reputation and financial strength.

About you

Our new team-member should be a student or recent graduate with a Bachelor's degree as a minimum. You should have a keen interest in a broad set of risks ranging from natural perils to technological, political, economic and societal developments.

You also should

  • Be proficient in English - both spoken and written
  • Have a strong interest in interdisciplinary analysis
  • Familiarity with databases and database structures as well as practical work experience is a plus.

This 60-100% internship is based in Zurich, Switzerland, and will last 4 months, starting in August 2021.

We are looking forward receiving your application! Good luck!

Swiss Re embraces diversity and equal opportunity. We are committed to building an inclusive team that represents a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills. We further collaborate in a flexible working environment, providing all of our employees with a compelling degree of autonomy to decide how, when and where we work most effectively
