About the Role


Are you the highly motivated intern who is interested to help contribute to Urban Resilience in one of the world's largest reinsurance companies?


You will join our team in Zurich and:


  • Contribute to the continuous development of thought leadership portfolio of digital opportunities in the supply-chain and Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) space to uncover new pools of risk in the urban landscape
  • Support the definition of one or two early stage High Potential Research initiatives: establish the opportunity scope for Swiss Re, external research partners and the R&D collaboration model
  • Contribute to the in-flight High Potential Initiatives leveraging the combined innovation of DLT, IoT and a variety of machine learning techniques by supporting the design and development of predictive modeling and business intelligence solutions
  • Extract data and perform statistical analyses on large data sets (using languages such as R, SQL, and Python)
  • Apply new skills in project management, presentation, corporate world interaction into developing top quality business proposals
  • Represent Swiss Re with your university peers and build an internal network within Swiss Re


About the Team


Swiss Re Institute creates competitive advantage in risk knowledge through research & development efforts. The Urban Resilience, Supply Chain R&D and DLT team helps the institute by identifying high potential research opportunities, data driven new business models in the global supply-chain and Distributed Ledger Technology space. Our team collaborates closely with Business Unit innovation centers at Swiss Re globally to jointly deliver new businesses from digital opportunities.

About You


  • You study math, physics, computer science (or similar) with a strong technology focus (minimum six completed semesters of undergrad)
  • You are business driven, tech-savvy and curious, provide strong analytical skills and are curious to apply your knowledge in the world of risk and (re-)insurance
  • You are a proactive, great teammate and drive progress independently
  • You thrive in an environment where you have room to grow and perform, and you love working in a team
  • You provide good knowledge of PowerPoint and Excel
  • You have knowhow of programming language (e.g. Python or R)
  • You provide problem-solving skills and a strong analytical and entrepreneurial mind-set
  • You command excellent oral and written English, in addition German would be a plus
  • You are forward-looking and ambitious, have a strategic mind and are keen to make a difference that counts
  • You are passionate about proposing creative ideas and put yourself out there for them


Duration of internship: 4-6 months, starting February 2020
