About the team

 

Principal Investments & Acquisitions ("PI&A") is a team of ~20 investment professionals located in New York, Zurich and Hong Kong and is part of Swiss Re's Group Asset Management division. Our two primary functions are to: (i) source, execute and oversee a multi-billion dollar portfolio of direct private equity minority interest investments in insurance-related businesses ("Principal Investments") and (ii) lead M&A activities for Swiss Re at the Group and Business Unit levels ("Acquisitions"). Our Europe, Middle East & Africa ("EMEA") team consists of 6 professionals responsible for all Principal Investments and Acquisitions in Europe, Middle East and Sub-Saharan Africa as well as some Group-wide Acquisitions that are global in scope. PI&A is a highly regarded team within the Group with direct access to the Group's C-suite and Business Unit heads as well as interaction with senior professionals across the organization.

 

The opportunity

 

  • Evaluate opportunities – i.e., fit with strategic / investment appetite, benefits and risks, financial analysis, valuation and returns

  • Execute transactions – i.e., due diligence, structuring, negotiation, and documentation

  • Work with Business Unit leaders and key internal and external partners in evaluating and completing transactions

  • Support value creation efforts for Principal Investments portfolio companies including engaging with company managers

  • Prepare materials vital to enable efficient executive decision-making (e.g., PI&A Management, Investment Committee and Group Executive)

  • Stay aware of the latest trends and developments in the insurance and reinsurance sectors through engagement with external and internal parties

  • Work as part of a highly visible team of insurance, investment and M&A professionals with a track record of investing in and acquiring insurance-related businesses globally

  • Develop skills related to corporate mergers and acquisitions and managing private equity-style investment portfolio

About you

 

  • 3-5 years of relevant full-time work experience in a transaction focused, analytical environment (e.g., Corporate Development, Investment Banking or Private Equity)

  • Demonstrated analytic ability, financial foresight and modelling skills

  • Desire to further develop investing skills and carrying out corporate transactions and, with time, take on responsibility for leading transactions

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to effectively interact and collaborate within a corporate environment

  • Good presence, judgement and "self-starter" personality

  • Phenomenal teammate, able to partner transparently with team members on transactions and fit in with other members of PI&A EMEA team

  • Excel and PowerPoint proficiency

  • Undergraduate degree in Finance, Economics, Insurance, Actuarial Science or a related field
