About the role


As a Senior Reporting Professional, you will support all core activities related to economic valuation and performance of the Reinsurance Business Unit. You will have the opportunity to get deep insights into the economics of the reinsurance business and how individual P&C products contribute to the overall value generation of Swiss Re. You will acquire in-depth technical expertise and knowledge of the accounting treatment of underlying reinsurance products, external and internal transactions in a multi-valuation environment. You will understand the capitalization requirements of a legal entity and the internal funding costs framework. You will develop an understanding of SwissRe's Economic Value Management (EVM) framework, as well as IFRS, US GAAP and Swiss Solvency Test (SST). This will enable you to analyse and explain the financial results and put them in context with each other.

In this role you will have opportunity:

 

  • To support the EVM quarterly reporting process and ensure timely preparation of high-quality deliverables
  • To assist interpreting and analysing the movements as well as providing business insights and explanations to internal clients / stakeholders
  • To support the team in its role as the centre of competence for all EVM P&C related queries
  • To review the implementation of the internal performance framework combining methodology aspects with business knowledge
  • To participate and contribute to cross functional working groups and projects, including financial reporting, IT development, and financial modelling
  • To collaborate and engage with various functions involved in the quarterly reporting processes

 

About the team


Within the department Reinsurance Financial Accounting Technical, the team Accounting and Closing P&C manages all valuations for P&C business. The EVM P&C Reporting team is part of the Accounting and Closing P&C team and focuses on SwissRe's economic framework EVM. We are a diversified and multinational team of approximately 10 team members located in Zürich, London and Bangalore. A position in our team gives you a wide range of opportunity to expand the understanding of the economics of the reinsurance business and you will work in collaboration with other group functions such as treasury, actuarial control, business management and planning and steering. We are a high-performing team, and we work in a friendly, collaborative and fun atmosphere.

 

Our Mandate


The EVM Reporting P&C team has ownership of sub-ledger accounting and closing activities for Property and Casualty (P&C) performance metrics / economic valuation according to the SwissRe's internal economic framework (EVM), including external business, intra-group and external retrocessions.

 

  • We offer advice to our internal stakeholders on performance metrics for P&C business, large transactions, and internal and external retrocessions.
  • We produce accurate and timely performance data for P&C on all carriers globally.
  • We report in line with Group guidelines and carrier mandates.
  • We transform accounting technical data into accurate financial perspective.
  • We understand and provide business insights to our clients, complementing our financial statements.

  • Professional experience in similar role or industry.

About you

 

 

  • University graduate with a primary or higher degree (or equivalent), preferably with focus on mathematics/ science/ economics/ finance/ engineering/ computer science
  • CFA, PMI, etc. are an advantage.
  • 1-3 years professional working experience
  • Previous experience in the finance industry is desirable
  • Experience within the non-life insurance industry is an asset
  • Excellent command of English (spoken and written), other languages are an asset
  • Strong understanding of MS Excel required, MS Access, Oracle SQL, SAP and scripting languages such as Python are a plus
  • Analytical skills (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow, etc.)
  • Strong communication skills in English, both written and spoken
  • Positive attitude to challenges, willingness to understand complex concepts and seek problems with a broad view
  • Able to perform tasks with a high degree of autonomy, while partnering closely with all relevant stakeholders when needed
  • Teammate with strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Stress resilient, ability to work independent, demonstrate personal accountability
