About the role


The Agriculture Innovation Intern will be working with the Agriculture underwriting and Special Lines Innovation team. There are several interesting projects that we would like to pursue in data analytics, effective use of technology or the conceptualization of sustainable business models. Quantitative impact assessment of Climate Change on Agriculture losses and the design of high resolution parametric products based on state of the art crop health indicators are just two of the projects we want to work on.
The role requires a great deal of proactivity and the active contribution of own ideas for the success of the innovation projects. The applicant will be required to hold on to specific deadlines and work with an international team across the globe. Flexibility is required as priorities of the project might change during the internship.


About the team


The intern will be part of Swiss Re Special Lines innovation team along with four other interns working on a variety of innovation topics related to the insurance industry. The innovation team is designed as an environment of collaboration and dialogue where exchanges are encouraged. 
For this specific project, you will work with our Agriculture team and will be exposed to underwriters and business activities related to this line of business.


About you


  • Master student in environmental or natural science, mathematics, physics 
  • Experience in climate model analytics and remote sensing
  • Experience in working with big data sets
  • Experience/interest in (actuarial) data science
  • Interest for financial risk management
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Program skills in one of the following languages would be an advantage: R, GIS (QGIS, ArcMAP), Matlab, Javascript, Python
  • Excellent oral and written English. 
  • Teammate who naturally brings individuals together as needed, across countries and functions
  • Reliable, open-minded, creative and enthusiastic
  • Delivers high quality work also under pressure
  • Excellent organisation skills


Duration of internship: 4-6 months, starting 1st of March 2020!
