About the Role
We are looking for a curious and motivated Junior Data Engineer to join our Product Area Research & Sustainability, part of Risk Management IT. In this role, you will be at the heart of building and maintaining the data foundations that power meaningful business insights and decision-making across Group Risk Management, Group Underwriting, and the Swiss Re Institute.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, development and maintenance of data pipelines and data transformations
- Integrating data from different source systems, APIs, and databases
- Ensure data quality, consistency, and reliability across datasets and reports
- Collaborate with product and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and business use cases
- Contribute to documenting data flows, data models, and technical solutions
- Participate in agile ceremonies (planning, reviews, retrospectives) and contribute from a data perspective
- Gradually build an understanding of end‑to‑end data architectures and business processes
About the Team

Our work sits at the intersection of technology, research, and business impact, making quality engineering a truly meaningful and visible function within the area.
About You
You are genuinely curious about data and motivated to grow. You enjoy asking "why", digging into how data flows end-to-end, and helping teams build reliable and meaningful data products. You are comfortable working in a collaborative environment, confident enough to ask questions, and enthusiastic about contributing to a team where your work has real business impact.
We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:
- First experience or strong interest in data engineering, analytics, or data platforms
- Basic knowledge of SQL and working with structured data
- Understanding of ETL/ELT concepts and data processing fundamentals
- Analytical mindset with the ability to work structured and detail‑oriented
- Curiosity and willingness to understand how data flows end-to-end
- Good communication skills and confidence to ask questions and clarify requirements
These are additional nice to haves:
- Basic knowledge of Python, PySpark, or similar data‑processing technologies
- Exposure to cloud environments or modern data platforms
- First experience with data quality checks, data validation, or data governance concepts
- Interest in risk management, insurance, reinsurance, or sustainability‑related data
- Analytical mindset with a structured, detail-oriented approach to problem-solving
- Strong communication skills — you're comfortable engaging with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
What We Offer
- A supportive environment to learn data engineering fundamentals alongside experienced engineers
- Hands‑on exposure to complex, business‑critical data products with real impact
- Close collaboration with product, IT, and business stakeholders
- An opportunity to engage with and contribute to AI-related initiatives and learning how modern data platforms enable machine learning and intelligent solutions
- Clear development paths and room for professional growth, including learning opportunities in advanced analytics, data engineering, platforms roles and AI topics working models and an inclusive, international team culture
