Intern Data Scientist (Hybrid; m/f/x/d; 80-100%)

About the Role
In this hands-on internship, you'll collaborate with experienced Data Scientists and Engineers to develop cutting-edge AI solutions that address complex business challenges. You'll be immersed in the entire data science lifecycle, from problem formulation to solution deployment, working directly with business experts to create impactful AI products.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the end-to-end delivery of AI products, including data engineering, visualization, machine learning, and model interpretation/monitoring
- Work with AI foundation models to develop innovative solutions for complex insurance challenges
- Actively contribute to knowledge sharing sessions, team events, hackathons, and other collaborative efforts
- Learn and apply data science techniques in a (re)insurance context
- Develop reusable toolboxes and solutions that can be leveraged across multiple projects
About the Team
The Data Science & AI (DS & AI) department is part of the Group Data Services. The DS & AI department implements Swiss Re's Technology Strategy and supports its business functions in generating insights and creating data-driven products & solutions, be it with our internal business partners or with our external insurance and corporate clients.
About You
You're a curious and analytical thinker who's passionate about applying data science and AI to solve real-world problems. You thrive in collaborative environments and can translate complex technical concepts into clear insights for diverse audiences. You're eager to learn about the insurance industry and how technology can drive innovation in this space.
We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:
- Recently completed a bachelor's or master's degree in a relevant technical discipline such as data science, mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering, or physics
- Strong knowledge in applied AI (e.g., statistical/machine learning, working with foundation models such as prompting, context engineering, RAG)
- Knowledge in software/data engineering (e.g., code versioning, distributed computing)
- Experience with Python programming
- Open, curious and team-oriented mindset, eager to learn about new technologies
- Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to present ideas and explain models in non-technical terms
- Fluent in English
- Eligible to work in Switzerland
These are additional nice to haves:
- Experience with TypeScript & SQL
- Familiarity with cloud/data platforms (e.g., Microsoft Azure, Palantir Foundry)
