About the Role

 

As Team Leader – Property Underwriting for the US Southeast Region, you will sit at the intersection of strategic leadership and technical underwriting excellence. This is a high-impact, dual-focus role where you will guide a talented team of Property Underwriters, champion portfolio profitability, and cultivate meaningful broker and client relationships — all while continuing to roll up your sleeves on complex accounts. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee a team of Property Underwriters supporting General Property business across the Southeast Region, ensuring consistent underwriting quality and adherence to best practices
  • Manage and underwrite a portfolio of complex, large corporate property accounts, applying deep technical expertise to drive sound underwriting decisions and portfolio profitability
  • Coach and mentor underwriters at all levels, providing ongoing feedback, guidance, and development opportunities to elevate team performance and capability
  • Recruit and retain top underwriting talent, fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and high-performing team culture
  • Drive business development by building and maintaining strong relationships with regional brokers and clients, identifying and capitalizing on growth opportunities within the Southeast market
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with actuarial, claims, and risk engineering teams to ensure a holistic approach to underwriting and portfolio management
  • Ensure governance and compliance by maintaining adherence to company underwriting policies, guidelines, and delegated underwriting authorities
  • Monitor portfolio performance, analyze trends, and implement corrective actions to optimize results and meet regional business objectives
  • Represent the organization at industry events, broker meetings, and client engagements, strengthening Swiss Re's presence and reputation in the Southeast Region
  • Contribute to regional strategy, providing market insights and recommendations to senior leadership to inform business planning and growth initiatives

You will lead a dedicated and collaborative team of Property Underwriters serving the Southeast Region. The team is responsible for underwriting and managing a diverse portfolio of General Property business, working closely with brokers, clients, and internal partners to deliver tailored risk solutions. About You

 

You are a confident and credible underwriting leader who brings both deep technical knowledge and a genuine passion for developing people. You lead with integrity, communicate with clarity, and know how to balance the demands of a complex portfolio with the needs of a growing team. You are relationship-driven, commercially astute, and energized by the opportunity to shape both business performance and team culture in a dynamic regional market.

 

We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:

  • 10+ years of Property underwriting experience, with a demonstrated track record of managing complex, large corporate property placements and portfolios
  • Deep technical expertise in General Property underwriting, including risk assessment, pricing, coverage analysis, and portfolio management across a broad range of industry segments
  • Proven leadership and people management experience, including recruiting, mentoring, and developing underwriting talent in a team environment
  • Strong regional broker and client relationships within the Southeast US market, with the ability to leverage these connections to drive business growth and retention
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience, with relevant industry designations (e.g., CPCU, AU) considered a strong asset

 

These are additional nice to haves:

  • Experience working within a reinsurance or global specialty insurance environment
  • Familiarity with catastrophe modeling tools and exposure management frameworks relevant to Southeast US perils (e.g., wind, flood, convective storm)
  • Experience contributing to or leading regional business strategy and planning initiatives
  • Strong presentation and negotiation skills, with experience engaging at senior broker and client levels
  • A track record of fostering diverse, inclusive, and psychologically safe team environments
  • Proficiency with underwriting platforms and data analytics tools to support portfolio monitoring and decision-making
  • Active involvement in industry associations or professional networks within the Southeast US insurance market

 


 

The estimated base salary range for this position in Alpharetta GA is $156,000 to $234,000. The specific salary offered for this, or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget. At Swiss Re, we take a "total compensation approach" when making compensation decisions. This means that we consider all components of compensation in their totality (such as base pay, short-and long-term incentives, and benefits offered), in setting individual compensation.

 


 

Our company has a hybrid work model where the expectation is that you will be in the office at least three days per week.
