Property Treaty Underwriter - Hybrid

About the Role

 

Come join Swiss Re's Chief Underwriting Office as a property treaty underwriter in the US Globals property treaty desk!  Join a fast-paced team that is dedicated to servicing some of the largest P&C clients in the world!   Our team assesses the risk of our client portfolios from both an underwriting and actuarial lens for proportional, per risk and cat treaties.  We work closely in a collaborative environment with a cross-functional team to develop property solutions for our clients.  This position may also have a chance to learn more on the Canada and English Caribbean markets.

 

Key needs of the role:

  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of reinsurance pricing, risk selection and underwriting practice including:
    • Quantifying the expected loss of our treaties and determining the underwriting quality of a portfolio by using actuarial methods including experience/exposure ratings
    • Assessing contract/policy language and ensuring terms meet our underwriting guidelines
  • Represent and position Swiss Re as a strong Property player with clients and brokers
  • Build and foster a collaborative team spirit while looking for solutions that support our clients and meet our appetite

 

Depending on experience, this role can be offered a higher level.

 

About the Team

 

The team is a fabulous group of 9 with 6 people focused on US Globals and 3 others focused on the Canada and English Caribbean.  We work more broadly with a larger group of property underwriters locally in the US and abroad.  The team is extremely collaborative, and we have complementary skills that enable everyone to grow and develop.

Our team also works closely within a client cross functional team that includes client managers, structurers, contracts, claims, and accounting to ensure full service from all angles to our clients.

 

 

About You

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of insurance/reinsurance experience
  • Strong mathematical and analytical capabilities; pursuing ACAS/FCAS designation or clear mathematical degree (engineering, mathematics, statistics, etc.) a positive
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to travel

 

Our company has a hybrid work model where the expectation is that you will be in the office two to three days per week on average. 

 

For Armonk, NY, the estimated base salary range for this position is $104,000 to $168,000.  The specific salary offered for this, or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget.  At Swiss Re, we take a "total compensation approach" when making compensation decisions. This means that we consider all components of compensation in their totality (such as base pay, short-and long-term incentives, and benefits offered), in setting individual compensation.
