Would you like to join one of the largest reinsurance groups in the world? Are topics like transactions and reinsurance important to you? In this role, you will act as a senior legal counsel and actively participate in the execution of our reinsurance transaction strategy. The role requires strong technical knowledge and experience as well as good judgment and effective teamwork. In this position you will report to the Head Legal Transactions, Americas.

In your role you will:

  • support customized reinsurance and retrocession transactions which may involve capital markets touchpoints (e.g., portfolio transfers and block acquisitions; remote risk transactions; retrocessions: longevity covers; reserve financings; parametric and index-based solutions) during structuring, negotiation and implementation phases
  • provide legal advice in relation to Swiss Re's reinsurance business strategy for its Life & Health, Property & Casualty and Alternative Capital Partners divisions
  • analyze and advise on legal and regulatory matters as they apply to the group's Americas reinsurance and global retrocession activities
  • conduct legal due diligence on transactions; review, draft and negotiate deal documentation; instruct and manage outside counsel, as needed
  • work closely with a diverse group of structurers, marketers, underwriters, actuaries and other cross-functional colleagues to support transactions primarily throughout the Americas, and potentially on a global basis, for both life and non-life business
  • lead and/or participate in the legal work stream for transactions, providing support to satisfy local requirements, address legal, regulatory and reputational risks and ensure appropriate levels of governance
  • develop and maintain positive working relationships with clients, colleagues and outside law firms
  • support internal projects as needed; provide timely and concise input to senior management
  • support development of efficient policies and practices that maintain high legal and ethical standards
  • conduct and/or arrange internal presentations and trainings on legal topics
  • monitor legal and regulatory trends affecting the company's business areas

Qualification and Experience:

We are looking for you if you:

  • are a US attorney with at least five years' experience with a large law firm or reinsurance company
  • have transactional experience in life and/or non-life reinsurance-based solutions
  • have knowledge of reinsurance laws, regulations and practices and ideally an understanding of cross-border issues, basic structured finance and collateral structures
  • work independently and prioritize multiple requests and deadlines
  • provide high-quality, timely client service that is balanced with a clear focus on protecting the interests and reputation of the firm
  • are an effective written and oral communicator and adopt a pragmatic approach to problem-solving

  • You identify and report legal, regulatory and reputational risks, provide professional advice, expertise and guidance, and apply good judgement beyond the dimensions of laws and regulations
  • You are a trusted business partner, who develops relationships and communicates legal concepts clearly and succinctly
  • You possess excellent drafting, negotiation, influencing and legal project management skills
  • You openly share assumptions, beliefs, values and thought process in reaching conclusions and are self-reflective, willing to learn, and collaborative
  • You take accountability for progress and outcomes, apply a measured appetite for risk, and plan ahead to deliver workable solutions
  • Proficiency in Spanish or Portuguese is a plus
  • Some travel may be required
