Our company has a hybrid work model where the expectation is that you will be in the office three days per week; however, for an exceptional candidate, this role can be done remotely within USA.

About the Role  

We are looking for a highly innovative and experienced L&H Underwriter to support the delivery of our global underwriting strategy through our manual Life Guide

 

Key responsibilities: 

  • Develop underwriting guidelines: in collaboration with the Global Medical officers, contribute to the creation and global delivery of evidence-based ratings (EBR) including Life Guide's calculators. 
  • Content management: support regular content updates to Life Guide, ensuring it reflects the latest advancements in underwriting and medicine. 
  • Simplify complex underwriting issues: translate complex underwriting issues into a pragmatic and accurate global underwriting philosophy. 
  • Research and development: demonstrate your creativity in research and development, applying medical knowledge and underwriting expertise flexibly to life underwriting. 
  • Stakeholder management: effectively manage feedback and inquiries from both internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Technical expertise: act as a source of technical knowledge supporting the use of AI in EBR processes and beyond. 
  • Contribute to thought leadership as well as learning & development initiatives alongside Life Guide 
  • Sign off underwriting referrals for large and complex cases

About the Team 

 

This U.S.-based role will report to the Head of Life Guide and Medical Research. Our global team consists of medical doctors and underwriting experts who are an integral part of delivering our global underwriting philosophy through Life Guide. You will collaborate closely with colleagues across the global L&H Underwriting & Claims teams as well as market units, delivering market leading insights to help our local teams and clients excel in managing current and future underwriting risks. While you will be working in an enthusiastic team, you will be able to make decisions independently and at speed, taking full accountability of those. 

 

 

About You 

  • You are an experienced L&H underwriter with a minimum of 10 years underwriting experience across a broad range of L&H products. 
  • You hold a university degree in a related field, underwriting designations (FALU, FLMI, CLU) a plus. 
  • You have extensive in-depth knowledge of underwriting strategy and its implications, market dynamics, and human behaviors as they relate to underwriting and risk assessment
  • You bringexcellent organizational skills, with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities effectively, and with a strong commitment to deliveries. 
  • Your strengths include a strategic perspective in analyzing client needs, solving problems, and designing holistic, pragmatic, and user-friendly solutions to complex problems. 
  • You have strong teamwork skills, allowing you to perform at a high level with others independently. 
  • You are a confident communicator and can successfully engage with stakeholders at all levels in an organization and across the globe. 
  • You have a commercial mind set, with desire to place the client first an absolute priority. 
  • You possess excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrate flexibility and open-mindedness. 

 

 

 

The estimated base salary range for this position is $128,000 to $204,000.  The specific salary offered for this, or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget.  At Swiss Re, we take a "total compensation approach" when making compensation decisions. This means that we consider all components of compensation in their totality (such as base pay, short-and long-term incentives, and benefits offered), in setting individual compensation.
