Senior Legal Counsel, Employment Litigation & Advisory
We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to join our global team providing legal advisory services on a wide range of employment law issues across all Swiss Re's businesses and jurisdictions!
About the Role
In this role you will collaborate with internal clients and legal and compliance colleagues and share your knowledge in formal trainings and across a variety of platforms. Cultivating positive working relationships with other members of the global Employment Law Advisory team, Human Resources, and outside counsel you will provide practical strategies as well as self-help overviews and templates for risk mitigation and best practices to the business and Human Resources team.
This role manages employment law disputes and litigation; drafts, reviews and negotiates varying employment agreements and documents; and provides advice on the full range of employment law issues including:
- Recruiting and hiring
- Employee relations, discipline and terminations
- Compliance with legal and regulatory requirements as to pay equity and pay transparency, discrimination and harassment, wage and hour issues, workplace violence, data protection and privacy and global mobility
- Corporate restructurings, acquisitions and dispositions
- Monitor developments and advise on updates of employment law and regulations
About You
We are looking for a standout colleague with excellent written and oral communication skills who consistently demonstrates strong leadership and strategic thinking, with a can-do attitude and ability to respond quickly to emerging issues, legal developments, shifting priorities, and projects who enjoys working collaboratively and constructively with colleagues across a diverse range of backgrounds, functions, and regions.
Additional requirements:
- US qualified lawyer with 10+ years of employment practice experience (both litigation and advisory) at a top law firm and as an in-house counsel.
- Prior in-house experience required, ideally in a multi-national company in banking/insurance/financial services or another heavily regulated industry.
- Strong familiarity with corporate HR operations, organizational roles/responsibilities, systems, data collection, analysis and AI, and current approaches to the entire employee life cycle.
- Sound business judgment and experience presenting to senior executives and teams.
- Solid analytic skills and committed to providing high-quality, timely and pragmatic client service, based on a holistic view of risk, including legal, commercial, reputational, and ethical issues.
About the Team
This is an opportunity to be part of a global employment law team comprised of legal counsels based in locations in the US and EMEA providing pragmatic, legally compliant and solution driven advice to the business, senior management, and HR across all of our locations. The Employment Law team is part of a larger team within Legal & Compliance including litigators, e-Discovery specialists, and competition and sanctions lawyers. The Head of the team reports directly to the General Counsel of Swiss Re.
The estimated base salary range for this position is $200,000 to $300,000. The specific salary offered for this or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget. At Swiss Re, we take a "total compensation approach" when making compensation decisions. This means that we consider all components of compensation in their totality (such as base pay, short-and long-term incentives, and benefits offered), in setting individual compensation.
