About the Role
Our team is seeking a Senior Reinsurance Contracts Counsel to join us in supporting property and casualty reinsurance business in North America. You will draft and review reinsurance contract wordings, advise on reinsurance contract related matters and engage with internal and external clients to negotiate and finalize the terms of reinsurance contracts.
Key responsibilities include:
- Apply your senior level reinsurance experience and extensive legal skills to the development of our reinsurance contracts
- Independently draft and critique reinsurance contracts and related documents to align written agreements with business intent and corporate requirements
- Align Swiss Re's reinsurance contracts with applicable law, regulations and internal requirements
- Coordinate, communicate and participate in development of corporate policies on contract related matters
- Collaborate with internal partners in contract negotiations, including discussions with external clients and brokers
- Act as expert technical advisor, providing guidance to various corporate functions regarding contract interpretation, implications of contract language and best practices
- Conduct AI-assisted data deep dives into various underwriting portfolios to assess and advise on contract terms and conditions
- Contributing to our technology transformation journey by supporting the enhancement of our contract management IT infrastructure comprising various on-line contract knowledge databases, governance related materials, service catalogues, and client relationship information repositories
- Develop training materials and deliver training on contract related matters
- Maintain strong governance risk and control standards with respect to contract wordings and processes, and assist on compliance reviews and inquiries
About the Team
In Property & Casualty (P&C) Contracts, you will join a highly engaged global team of some three dozen lawyers and specialists. Primary responsibilities of our Contracts Function include drafting and review of (re)insurance wordings, advising on contract related matters and engaging with internal and external clients to negotiate and finalize the terms of reinsurance contracts as well as the further development of our tool landscape and wording analytics.
The P&C Reinsurance Contracts Americas team acts as enablers and providers of valuable contracts services and solutions to the P&C Americas business. P&C Contracts Americas supports the observation of legal trends and developments in (re)insurance as well as the translation of those into rule sets in order to guarantee consistency and good governance around the contractual agreements Swiss Re agrees with its clients.
About You
In this role we encourage you to develop and apply a thorough understanding of relevant law, regulations and market practices in the North American region. You will also require strong analytical abilities, experience in business negotiations, and excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to engage confidently and in an impactful manner with internal stakeholders and outside clients. We are seeking a candidate with an innovative, pragmatic and results-oriented mindset, who possesses the ability to work independently with a sense of personal responsibility and accountability, while also building cooperative relationships with internal and external partners.
- Degree in Law or equivalent education
- A minimum of 5 years of professional experience as an attorney or related (re)insurance experience
- Strong knowledge of contract related legal and contractual principles and practices relating to (re)insurance
- Solid understanding of P&C products and the North American (re)insurance market
- Strong analytical and communication skills
- Well informed about and proficient in the use of modern technology, including tool & systems and willingness to support the development of such tools on a fast-paced transformation journey, digital contracting capabilities a plus
- Agile, pragmatic, and can-do attitude
The estimated base salary range for this position is $156,000 to $240,000. The specific salary offered for this or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget. This means that we consider all components of compensation in their totality (such as base pay, short-and long-term incentives, and benefits offered), in setting individual compensation.
