Senior Risk Manager, Property & Casualty (Hybrid Work Model)

We are offering a unique opportunity for a Senior Risk Manager to join our dynamic, open minded and global Property & Casualty Reinsurance Risk Management team!

About the Role

You will gain an excellent overview of and frequent exposure to Swiss Re's global Property & Casualty (P&C) Re risk-taking activities, with a strong focus on our Casualty business, but also supporting decision making on large and complex transactions. You will engage with senior business and management stakeholders.

Key responsibilities to actively drive and/or contribute to the execution of our mandate

  • Assess risk-taking / underwriting activities within P&C Re, from individual large deals up to entire portfolios, from a qualitative and a quantitative perspective.
  • Provide P&C Re's and Group's EC and BoD with an independent view of relevant risk implications arising out of strategic and financial plans of specific Casualty portfolios.
  • Contribute to and lead insurance risk reviews for specific markets, underwriting teams or P&C relevant global topics.
  • Support the Casualty CUO teams in further developing their operational rigor as an embedded operational risk manager.
  • Identify new risks and accumulations based on your background and the insights you gain through your day-to-day interactions.
  • Support, as needed, the review of large and complex P&C Re transactions, engaging closely with key stakeholders to enable well-informed referral decisions.
  • Contribute to internal and external risk communications as well as drive risk management activities, strategic initiatives and projects globally.

Collaboration is key to our success!  This role requires close co-operation with colleagues across Risk Management, Underwriting and other functions to ensure consistency and efficiency, and to leverage the full available expertise.  You must also be able to develop and maintain trusted relationships with Key Risk Takers mostly in the P&C Re CUO area.

About You

You bring excellent relationship building skills to the role and are at ease with different styles, preferences and cultures.  A team player, your drive and energy enable you to motivate yourself and those around you!  Effectively organizing yourself, people around you and tasks, you are comfortable with shifting priorities and deadlines, and instinctively keep calm under pressure.

We are looking for an intrinsically motivated candidate with the following strengths:

  • You have 7+ years of significant underwriting expertise and experience with a minimum of 5 years in Casualty (re)insurance.
  • Must be comfortable interacting with, and expressing opposing viewpoints to, senior leadership and executives, doing so with confidence, respect and professionalism.
  • Analytical, able to break down complexity in a clear, simple and logical way.
  • You pick up problems fast, assess the key elements, and develop innovative and practical solutions. You distinguish between material versus less critical risks and can prioritize outcome over effort.
  • Adept at delivering tough messages in a constructive way. You are fair, open and transparent in your conversations with business partners.

We are a group of highly motivated and dynamic individuals, using our different backgrounds and skills to offer our business partners a variety of capabilities!  Our wider P&C Re Risk Management (RM) team covers Market Units and Legal Entities across the globe as well as P&C Reserving, Regulatory and Sustainability RM.
