Senior Treaty Underwriter
About the Role:
Come join Swiss Re's Chief Underwriting Office as a property treaty underwriter in the US Globals property treaty desk! Join a fast-paced team that is dedicated to servicing some of the largest P&C clients in the world! Our team assesses the risk of our client portfolios from both an underwriting and actuarial lens for proportional, per risk and cat treaties. We work closely in a collaborative environment with a cross-functional team to develop property solutions for our clients. This position may also have a chance to learn more on the Canada and English Caribbean markets.
Leadership
- Drives the execution of US Globals Property strategy within the various client cross-functional teams
- Represents and positions Swiss Re as a strong Property player within our market segment
- Establishes strong relationships with clients and brokers, and brings strategic thinking to cross-functional teams
- Builds and fosters a collaborative team spirit at the same time training and coaching junior underwriting and actuarial talent
Underwriting
- Demonstrates a deep understanding of reinsurance pricing, risk selection and underwriting practice.
- Quantifies the expected loss of our treaties and determines the underwriting quality of a portfolio using actuarial methods including experience/exposure ratings
- Demonstrates a solid understanding of contract /policy wording
- Understands, identifies and monitors (re-) insurance market trends, risk landscape and regulatory developments that may affect Swiss Re's property business
- Develops new ideas and innovative products which address client's needs
- Represents Swiss Re at industry events and with clients by demonstrating deep knowledge on important market and industry topics.
About You:
- A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college.
- Minimum 7+ years of insurance/reinsurance experience with focus on technical underwriting, pricing and/or Cat modeling
- Strong mathematical and analytical capabilities; ACAS/FCAS credentials or pursuing designation preferred
- Strong corporate finance knowledge and financial acumen
- Strong problem recognition and solving skills and ability to make sound decisions
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to travel
For Armonk, NY, the estimated base salary range for this position is $128,000 to $225,000. The specific salary offered for this, or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget. At Swiss Re, we take a "total compensation approach" when making compensation decisions. This means that we consider all components of compensation in their totality (such as base pay, short-and long-term incentives, and benefits offered), in setting individual compensation.
