Senior Underwriter Credit & Surety

 

About the Role
 

As an underwriter you will have the great opportunity to produce, underwrite and maintain a portfolio of Surety, Subcontractor Default Insurance, Trade Credit and Political Risk Treaty and Facultative reinsurance business.  You'll have the ability to use your creativity to develop solutions for clients and form rewarding relationships with clients and brokers.  You'll be supported by a seasoned, global team of leading Credit & Surety specialists and reinsurance experts.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Gather and assess information on proposed transactions, including deal structure and underlying portfolio. Conduct reviews of client operations as needed, either virtually or at client office.
  • Support existing relationships and develop future targets that would enhance the portfolio makeup and add to profitability.
  • Be responsible for pricing transactions using Swiss Re tools to determine projected margins, as well as conducting a contract wording reviews to ensure compliance with company guidelines.
  • Make appropriate recommendations for action, with supporting documentation. Record transactions in Swiss Re tools.
  • Be responsible for ongoing management of treaty and facultative transactions after effective date, including servicing client requests for Special Acceptances, and documenting/updating Swiss Re databases and applications.  Maintain data quality of the portfolio.
  • Ensure compliance with the Credit Underwriting Guidelines as well as Divisional and Group Guidelines
  • Develop and maintain close relationships with external clients and brokers, as well as coordinating with internal stakeholders.
  • Represent Swiss Re at market events, underwriting file reviews and workshops. You'll have an opportunity to showcase your knowledge by participating on panel discussions, industry committees, or white papers.
  • Monitor market trends, economic and legal developments impacting our product lines.

In this position, you will be working in the North American Credit & Surety Re team, reporting directly to the Head Credit & Surety Re North America. Swiss Re is a leader in the Credit & Surety market in North America. Our portfolio is a dynamic mix of national, regional and specialty segments. 


About You
 

  • Ideally, you'll have 5-7 years' experience in the insurance/reinsurance industry, with an understanding of relevant North American surety & credit products and underwriting issues.
  • You are self- motivated, detail oriented and adaptable with an open mind for new ideas, technology and new projects/relationships emerge.
  • You're a confident communicator who can engage with clients/brokers in person, writing and in online meetings.
  • You're resourceful and seek help from others when needed. 
  • You are adept at prioritizing competing tasks and managing timelines under pressure.
  •  You have a solid understanding of accounting and finance, with strong analytical skills including financial analysis.
  • Proficiency with common IT applications.
  •  You understand our clients are in different parts of North America and travel will be required for business reasons.

 

For Armonk, NY, and the New York City the estimated base salary range for this position is $156,000 to $246,000.  The specific salary offered for this, or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget.  At Swiss Re, we take a "total compensation approach" when making compensation decisions. This means that we consider all components of compensation in their totality (such as base pay, short-and long-term incentives, and benefits offered), in setting individual compensation.
