US Globals and Canada Property Actuary

Are you an experienced actuarial person with a passion for property business, advanced analytical capabilities, and a strong strategic mindset? If so, we’d love to hear from you!

About the Role

We are seeking a forward‑thinking actuary to join our team, reporting directly to the Head of US Globals and Canada Property CUO. In this role, you will partner closely with underwriters across both markets to evaluate and cost sophisticated deals—including per risk, quota share, and aggregate structures. In addition to deal‑level pricing, you will lead advanced portfolio analytics across the US and Canadian property markets, contributing to strategic insights and helping shape reinsurance decisions at scale.

This is a unique opportunity to influence high‑impact reinsurance strategies, contribute thought leadership, and collaborate across a dynamic, cross‑functional environment.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the costing of highly complex non‑catastrophe treaties across the US Globals and Canada Property portfolios, developing robust expected loss estimates and appropriate loss distributions.
  • Drive advanced portfolio‑level analytics to inform strategic decision‑making, optimize performance, and identify emerging trends across markets.
  • Develop, refine, and enhance actuarial models, methodologies, and costing parameters that support the broader property business.
  • Engage and collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders—including clients, broker actuaries, client managers, reserving teams, and Swiss Re senior leadership—to evaluate deals, portfolios, and pricing assumptions using diverse data sources.
  • Ensure pricing adequacy by assessing the impact of contract features, underwriting exposures, evolving legal and regulatory frameworks, and broader societal trends.
  • Serve as a key representative of Swiss Re in the Property market through active engagement with clients, brokers, and industry organizations.

About the Team

The US Globals and Canada Property CUO desk plays a pivotal role in evaluating some of Swiss Re’s most complex and strategically important property treaties—both in terms of underlying exposures and innovative deal structures. Our team integrates seasoned underwriters and actuaries who collaborate to deliver highly tailored, data‑driven solutions for clients. With team members located across Armonk, NY; Schaumburg, IL; and Toronto, Canada, we bring diverse and deep expertise to every challenge.

We embrace complexity, champion innovation, and consistently set high standards for excellence within the US Property Globals and Canada CUO organization.

About You

You are a seasoned, strategic, and analytically driven professional who thrives in a fast‑paced environment. You bring deep intellectual curiosity and the ability to translate complex quantitative insights into actionable recommendations. You demonstrate mature judgment, naturally lead from your seat, proactively address challenges, and build strong partnerships across teams and stakeholders.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience: Minimum 5+ years of experience in a reinsurance or primary pricing, portfolio management or reserving function (property experience a plus)
  • Expertise: Strong understanding of (re)insurance underwriting, property market dynamics, and key strategic drivers influencing insurer performance.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field required; ACAS/FCAS designation or active pursuit strongly preferred.
  • Communication: Proven ability to distill and communicate complex analyses to executive‑level stakeholders internally and externally.
  • Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships and work collaboratively within multi‑disciplinary teams across geographies.
