About the Role

As an Underwriting Product Engineer, you'll architect the future of data-driven decision making in the insurance industry. You'll build powerful analytical applications that transform complex data into actionable insights, empowering underwriters, actuaries, and business leaders across our global organization.

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Engineer and develop high-performance analytical applications, dashboards, and components that serve underwriters and steering teams 
  • Write clean, efficient code that supports real-time, high-trust insight delivery across our organization 
  • Implement robust standards for version control, testing, and documentation for all work products
  • Collaborate closely with product managers to translate business requirements into working features
  • Partner with AI/ML engineers and data architects to ensure infrastructure compatibility and downstream usability
  • Align with the Stargate data platform and adhere to shared development patterns
  • Support testing and monitoring of deployed tools to ensure reliability and performance
  • Document code and logic clearly to ensure auditability and team-wide understanding
  • Participate actively in code reviews, design discussions, and architectural evolution of the analytics stack

You will join the Global Underwriting Data & Analytics team - a talented, curious, and collegial cohort committed to solving the biggest challenges facing the insurance industry today. The team brings a deep understanding of the Underwriting problem statement and the technical expertise necessary to solve it. You'll be part of a collaborative environment where innovation thrives and your contributions directly impact business outcomes.

 

About You

You're a curious, detail-oriented engineer who's passionate about solving real business problems through data and software. You enjoy owning features end-to-end, thrive in collaborative environments, and seek to make measurable impact through your code. You're equally comfortable discussing technical solutions and explaining complex concepts to business stakeholders.

 

  • We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or other rigorous technical discipline
  • 5+ years of experience building data-driven applications, dashboards, or analytical tooling
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, SQL, JavaScript, TypeScript, or R
  • Experience with frontend frameworks (e.g., React, Plotly, Dash)
  • Strong understanding of software engineering principles including version control (Git), modularity, and testing
  • These are additional nice to haves:
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, GCP, Snowflake, or Palantir)
  • Experience working with large datasets and integrating with data pipelines
  • Knowledge of insurance or financial services industry
  • Experience in agile development environments
  • Background in data visualization best practices
