Cat Tools & Infrastructure Associate
Are you passionate about turning complex natural catastrophe data into powerful insights that shape global risk decisions? Do you thrive at the intersection of data science, analytical modelling and cutting-edge technology? If so, this is your opportunity to make a real impact at one of the world's leading reinsurance companies.
About the Role
As a Cat Model Analyst, you will be a key contributor to Swiss Re's proprietary Natural Catastrophe modelling platform — a platform that underpins underwriting and risk decisions on a global scale. You'll work at the heart of a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with model developers, underwriters, geospatial specialists and software engineers to build innovative tools, deploy cutting-edge risk models and deliver insights that matter.
This is a role for someone who loves solving complex analytical problems, building scalable solutions and turning bold ideas into tangible business impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Conceptualise and build NatCat applications using sophisticated analytical technologies, driving platform improvements from concept to production
- Partner directly with model developers, underwriters and product owners to design and deliver innovative, business-ready solutions
- Support model validation and deployment, assisting model developers in validating prototypes and deploying them into the global productive Nat Cat platform
- Build and maintain exposure reporting tools in combination with internal models and external risk model providers
- Collaborate and coordinate across teams to ensure successful model and tool releases throughout the year
- Drive release testing and documentation, supporting proper business documentation for various NatCat tool suite releases
- Provide ad-hoc support to the user community on model and tool-related issues and queries
- Install, maintain and contribute to the Oasis open-source platform, including the development of new functionality over time
- Coordinate platform setup and maintenance with third-party vendors
- Contribute to innovation, product development, data science and data mining/extraction initiatives that expand Swiss Re's competitive edge
About the Team
You will be embedded in the Cat & Geo Modelling team, a dynamic and globally distributed group based across Zurich and Bangalore, bringing together specialists in natural science, engineering, statistics and software development. Few organisations offer the opportunity to influence both catastrophe model development and real underwriting decisions at global scale — and this team is one of them.
The Catastrophe Perils department is responsible for Swiss Re's global natural catastrophe risk assessment. The department advances innovative probabilistic and proprietary modelling technology for earthquakes, windstorms and flood hazards, with a clear business directive to grow Swiss Re's competitive edge in close collaboration with underwriters and clients. We are also an active and leading partner in the Oasis open-source modelling community.
As part of this team, you will work closely with various Cat Perils partners in designing and maintaining NatCat tools, and you will have the opportunity to participate in end-to-end modelling and costing/pricing for key client portfolios alongside underwriters. Depending on your interests and skills, there is real scope to grow and broaden your role over time.
