Geospatial Solution Specialist

Swiss Re's Risk Data Solutions is looking for a Geospatial Solutions Specialist to join itsdynamic and innovative Geo Centre of Excellence (GeoCoE) — a team passionate aboutdeveloping cutting-edge geospatial data and services that power products like CatNet®. About the Role:

 

As a Geospatial Solutions Specialist, you will be a key contributor to the design, development,and operationalization of geospatial data and services that underpin Swiss Re's flagshipsolutions. This is a hands-on, broad-reaching role where no two days look the same — you'llwork across the full geospatial lifecycle, from raw data processing to enterprise servicepublication, automation, and cross-functional collaboration. You'll have real ownership of yourwork, with opportunities to grow into broader responsibilities over time.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Design, develop, and manage geospatial datasets aligned with product roadmaps andenterprise platforms, ensuring they are production-ready and fit for purpose
  • Perform advanced spatial data processing using ArcGIS and QGIS, transforming raw andcomplex datasets into high-quality, actionable geospatial assets
  • Apply Python programming for geoprocessing, workflow optimization, data validation, andautomation — streamlining repetitive tasks and improving team efficiency
  • Own and contribute to geospatial data publishing workflows using open-source enterpriseplatforms such as GeoServer (including publishing, configuration, and caching) and in-house query tools
  • Ensure data quality through structured QA/QC processes, thorough documentation, andreproducibility standards that the team can rely on
  • Contribute to content creation, documentation, and internal knowledge sharing, helping tobuild a culture of learning and transparency within the team
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, and stakeholders to translatebusiness requirements into robust, scalable geospatial solutions

About You:

 

You are a geospatial professional with a strong technical foundation and a genuine growthmindset. You enjoy exploring new tools and approaches, constructively challenge existingprocesses, and are comfortable operating across different parts of the geospatial lifecycle. Youunderstand that mastering enterprise GIS requires both technical depth and contextualawareness — and you bring both to the table. You are collaborative by nature, communicateclearly, and take pride in delivering quality work.

 

We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:

 

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree (or equivalent experience) in Geoinformatics, GeographicInformation System (GIS), Remote Sensing, Natural/Environmental Sciences, orEngineering
  • Solid theoretical and practical understanding of geospatial data and geoprocessing, backedby 4+ years of relevant experience in the geospatial industry
  • Experience with both commercial and open-source GIS toolchains, including ArcGIS, QGIS,GeoServer, and GDAL
  • Proficiency in Python for geospatial data processing, automation, and workflow optimization
  • Basic IT and data-platform understanding, including databases and services (e.g., SQLfundamentals)
  • Strong problem-solving and quantitative skills, with the ability to work confidently withcomplex and large spatial datasets
  • Very good communication skills in English, both written and verbal

 

These are additional nice to haves:

 

  • Exposure or interest in web GIS, APIs, and service-based architectures
  • Interest or initial experience in AI and data science in a geospatial context (treated as agrowth area — not required)
  • Knowledge of version control (e.g., Git) and modern software development practices
  • Familiarity with cloud or enterprise platforms such as Azure
  • Understanding of natural catastrophe, climate, or risk-related geospatial data
  • Ability to thrive in a global, multicultural, and distributed team setting

 

Our company has a hybrid work model where the expectation is that you will be in the office atleast three days per week.
