Role Overview
Are you an experienced Property specialist looking forward to be part of a reputable global re/insurance organisation and further enriching your underwriting skills and international market knowledge in a dynamic fast paced world? Are you ready to work closely with overseas facultative underwriters in providing them facultative underwriting and analytic support in Asia Pacific markets? In your role, in addition to providing hands-on Property underwriting support, you will also lead / develop a team or Property / Casualty Facultative specialists and ensure to provide timely and quality underwriting support services within Swiss Re's underwriting and operating guidelines.
You are also expected to provide support on Underwriting operational management and governance.
You need to be competent in Property underwriting, man-made & Nat Cat modelling, good knowledge in re/insurance market and have a strong commercial mindset to provide high quality and timely services. As a team leader you will lead a team with motivation, foster collaboration and coach them to reach their career aspirations and professional development goals. You will have the opportunity to support building a strong P&C Facultative Underwriting support community in Bangalore and be in a key position to contribute to the success of Swiss Re's Facultative ambition growth in Asia Pacific.
About The Team    
The Bangalore (BLR) Facultative Team is a strategic offshore operating hub responsible for providing single risk facultative underwriting support to Swiss Re Asia Pacific markets across Property and Casualty lines of business. The Hub will work closely with the overseas facultative desk underwriters to provide underwriting support on Property and Casualty.
You will get in-depth exposure to Swiss Re’s proprietary underwriting practices, risk model platforms, costing tools as well as an opportunity to work with Swiss Re's overseas underwriters! Depending upon your inclination and skills, over time you will have the opportunity to widen your roles in multiple areas. In addition to your regular responsibilities, you will have the opportunity to contribute to various important cross-functional projects.
Main tasks/activities/responsibilities                           
1.    Lead the Property & Casualty Fac specialist to ensure timely and quality underwriting support is provided to overseas Fac underwriting desks for Swiss Re Asia Pacific markets (Japan, South Korea, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Southeast Asia, India & India sub-continent, Australia and New Zealand)
2.    Provide training & development and coaching to team members to ensure necessary underwriting skills, market knowledge and teamwork is in place to the level required in the BLR Fac UW Hub
3.    Ensure underwriting support activities are in line with Swiss Re's underwriting & operating guidelines as well as Legal & Permanent Establishment and regulatory frameworks
4.    Liaise with Risk Management and Governance on a regular basis for operational risk management:
a.    Carefully review and update our Property & Casualty Risk Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) during each quarter, and seek the sign-off from Asia Hub Head
b.    Ensure completion of any governance actions as required by RCSA
5.    Provide high quality underwriting support to overseas underwriting which will include but not limited to:
a.    Underwriting support of Property / Casualty Fac business including and risk assessment, risk data search & validation, review of risk engineering reports and risk improvement implementation progress, costing & pricing, wording & coverage conditions review, offer review and drafting, and underwriting documentation, etc.,
b.    Risk modelling and assessment in collaboration with desk underwriters, including location footprint & exposure capture, if required
c.    Underwriting analytics support on single risks, facilities and SwiftRe (on-line platform) business, etc.
d.    Ad hoc projects driven by Underwriting or cross-functional teams
e.    Continuous improvements to existing models and tools
6.    Prepares statistical client/region specific reports and share strategic inputs/solutions with internal partners
7.    Maintain the defined quality and turnaround time for case assessment
8.    Establishes & maintains positive relationship with internal partners
9.    Identify & resolve service issues with internal clients /stakeholders
About You/ Qualifications    
•    Competent in Property re/insurance underwriting, single-risk assessment, risk modelling and contract preparation, with >10 years of relevant Underwriting experience and exposure to international underwriting community
•    Team leading experience of strong actuarial /insurance analytics/ underwriting will be preferred.
•    Professional qualification in insurance e.g. CII, an added advantage
•    Experience in facility / portfolio underwriting analytics an added advantage
•    Basic understanding of Casualty re/insurance will be advantageous
•    Strong understanding of underwriting techniques, methods, tools and processes
•    Good knowledge of re-insurance/insurance underwriting
•    Proactive and strong communicator, both written and oral. Demonstrated ability to articulate thought processes & suggestions in a clear, structured and concise manner
•    Ability to navigate ambiguity and break down complexities into meaningful action
•    Ability to work with multiple projects and deliver in a timely manner
•    To be able to communicate including persuasion and expectation management
•    Customer focused and possess a commercial mindset
•    To work and get results in international teams with no hierarchical structures
•    Excellent command of English (written and spoken). Other foreign language will be added advantage
•    Ability to deliver strong results and bring new insights to constructively challenge the status quo
