Sr Actuarial Analyst Cas Treaty Asia

About the Team

The UW Analytics Team Asia is responsible to provide analytical and underwriting support to four underwriting desks within the region - including ANZ, China, Japan and Southeast Asia & Dragons. Our key contributions include supporting treaty renewals, assists our global Parameter Taskforce framework and providing underwriting allied activities. We enjoy a broad spectrum of different regions and knowledge via interactions with experts across the Swiss Re Group.

About the Role: Position summary & Main tasks/activities

We are looking for a dedicated and motivated individual to join the Property and Casualty UW Analytics Team. The role of the Actuarial Analyst is to carry out a variety of technical tasks / projects for different geographies within Asia region. You are encouraged to develop your expertise in costing/underwriting methodologies, costing tools, (re)insurance products and markets knowledge applied in each local underwriting desk.

Reporting to the Team Manager, you will be adding to Swiss Re's costing/underwriting capabilities, which are utilised in order to achieve our financial targets. You are a good team member who shall work with dedication, eagerness to learn and shall possess strong social skills.

Main responsibility includes:

  • You shall work actively within a cross-functional team, particularly with various underwriting teams and Client Markets
  • You assist individual casualty treaty account costing/underwriting esp. for Australia, New Zealand and Southeast Asian markets (predominantly motor, workers' compensation and liability)
  • You provide support to our annual evaluation and update of costing parameters across the region, which are used for our portfolio steering and treaty costing throughout the major renewal seasons.
  • You take part in underwriting related activities including but not limited to portfolio monitoring, (re)insurance market research / study and other forms of internal projects.
  • You participate actively in various regional / global projects

Professional / Technical Skills:

  • University Degree or equivalent, preferably in Actuarial Science / Mathematics / Statistics. Affiliation to any actuarial society is preferred.
  • Good knowledge of insurance/reinsurance and actuarial concepts of reserving and pricing is an advantage.
  • 2+ years of motor and/or liability actuarial experience in reinsurance and/or primary insurance desirable.
  • Excellent technical knowledge in Microsoft Excel, Word and Powerpoint would be appreciated. Knowledge in Access is a plus.

Personal Skills:

  • Great team member - able to build working relationships across technical fields, and work effectively across the P&C value chain
  • Strong ability to learn technical knowledge quickly.
  • An independent thinker - willing to form and defend own view on technical topics, when given the right support
  • Strong communication skills, including being capable to explain actuarial views to non-actuarial people in a precise and credible manner.
  • Excellent in oral and written English. Proficiency in another regional language a plus.
  • Able to travel in the region occasionally.
