Pricing Actuary

About the Role: 

We are seeking an experienced and client focused Pricing Actuary to join our Portfolio Management team.

 

The "Pricing Actuary" is a senior level standout colleague reporting into Team Lead Actuarial Portfolio Management P&S within Actuarial Portfolio Management Unit to execute the portfolio must-wins by using data driven techniques,

 

In this role, you would be playing a pivotal role in Global APM team by being a knowledge and execution leader of portfolio steering activities for P&S portfolios.

You will work closely with peers in APM and stakeholders in Property & Specialty underwriting and provide them with the information required to take fast decisions based on factual and up-to-date data insights to drive profitable underwriting.

 

Key responsibilities of the role include:

 

  • Employ data and line of business portfolio analytics to enhance the decision-making about risk selection, loss costing/pricing and actively enable the execution of global team mandate.
  • Build technical portfolio insight capabilities to optimize financial performance management and enhance the views on profitability of sub portfolios across the lines of business.
  • Employ data visualization techniques to design business reports and dashboards in various platforms including but not limited to R-Shiny, Power BI, Python, Tableau and Palantir.
  • Lead efforts on the continuous improvement of existing portfolio insights/analytic capabilities (in Palantir) and underlying data sources
  • Communicate your results and findings optimally to wider partners including Portfolio Managers, Pricing and Reserving Actuaries and Finance departments.
  • Involve in various Actuarial investigations including Actual vs Expected studies, Rate monitoring, Expenses analyses, and profitability analyses to drive portfolio steering.
  • Build up forward looking portfolio insights and data driven initiatives to actively support shaping the future direction of Property & Specialty lines of business sub-portfolios.
  • Partner with other actuaries to analyze risk and exposure profiling, treaty costing and loss modelling performance of underlying Actuarial Models

 About the APM P&S

 

Actuarial Portfolio Management (APM) is unit of Underwriting Corso supporting Property & Specialty, Credit & Surety, Casualty & Fin-Pro and Accident & Health underwriting. Property & Specialty (P&S) include Property, Energy, Aviation, Engineering, Marine and Agriculture line of business.

We drive portfolio management process to steer our underwriting portfolios towards sustainable profitability. We partner with portfolio owners and provide them with information required to take fast decisions based on factual and up-to-date data insights.

We handle meaningful portfolio management tasks and manage governance around portfolio management and costing models ensuring operational resilience and efficiency.

We drive product management activities associated with risk and exposure reporting, accumulation management, reinsurance submission preparation etc.

We provide overarching portfolio insights focused on risks and opportunities arising from trends to support the Global Line of Business Head Property & Specialty, Underwriting Centre and various other global partners.

We are a global team, and we maintain direct collaboration with different functions in Swiss Re Corporate Solutions by acting as the key Property & Specialty link with Underwriting, Finance, Claims and Actuarial (pricing and reserving)

 

 

About you:

  • Master's degree in mathematics/Statistics/Management/Actuarial Science or university degree in Engineering with at least 2-6 years of industry experience.
  • Experience in Insurance/ Reinsurance in Property & Specialty lines underwriting, reserving, or Actuarial Pricing.
  • Proficient in at least one data analysis languages like SQL Python or R including the relevant statistical and machine learning packages.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, flair for numbers and mathematics.
  • Proficient understanding of IFRS principles is a plus.
  • Hands-on know-how of data visualization techniques and packages and willingness for utilizing (new) technology is desirable.
  • Strong personality who enjoys taking ownership and can work independently or with colleagues and cultures from across the world.
  • Ability to prioritize and apply sound commercial judgment.
