About the Team

We are Group Costing Methods (GCM) team within Underwiring Excellence and are responsible for the definition and improvement of Costing methods, review, calibration and deployment of costing parameters. We are a highly collaborative, knowledgeable team with costing expertise across lines of business. Team is currently mainly spread across Zurich and Bengaluru. We have mandate to advice on underwriting decisions and maintain a holistic costing framework for new business and data driven insights across the organization.

 

About the role

We are looking for a self-driven team member, with a strong numerical and academic background and good overview of (re)insurance business to join the Group Costing department in Bengaluru.

 

The role is primarily focused on Costing Parameters, with a specific emphasis on impacting daily decision-making in Underwriting. We advise on major underwriting decisions and further their implementation in costing new business. Furthermore, we advise on how Swiss Re's capital can be allocated to the most promising underwriting risk pools. You will work closely with the Costing Economic Model team as well as GCM's IT teams as well as diverse BU or Group functions across Underwriting, Finance and Risk Management. Our responsibilities also are:

  • Definition of the costing methodology, including the review, calibration and deployment of costing parameters
  • Improvement of costing infrastructure
  • Support teams from around the organization by answering / clarifying ad hoc analytical / actuarial requests
  • Implement parameters in an auditable way
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation on process, input, output and sign-offs
  • Understanding and enhancements of Data structure
  • Proactive stakeholder management

 

The position involves performing quantitative analyses on portfolio data and complementing them with expert judgment. In the role you will leverage on our sophisticated tools and systems landscape as well as underwriting and market knowledge; you will contribute to assure the sustainable performance and the continuous enhancement of our technological infrastructure. The corporate title of the position will be AVP.

 

About You

  • University degree with a very strong quantitative background e.g., covering modelling and advanced data analysis.
  • 3-4 years of modelling and project management experience in (re) insurance.
  • Ability to read the big picture behind the data.
  • Be able to drive projects and deputize product owner – Experience in working with IT teams and writing specifications is an advantage.
  • Solid understanding of Python, R, SQL is advantageous.
  • Strong communication skill: you naturally bring individuals together in an interdisciplinary, multi-cultural environment and cross-functional teams.
  • Open and curious to learn more, quick-minded, creative, ambitious status quo & navigates ambiguity.
  • Self-starter who is methodical and well-organized. Highly acted, upbeat, proficient and reliable
  • Pragmatic in balancing ideas' origination and results' orientation with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Strong team player with a high degree of personal accountability
  • Comfortable with working in a multi-location team
