About the Role:
As a Lead Data Engineer at Swiss Re, you will be at the heart of our data transformation journey — architecting and delivering high-impact data pipelines and analytics solutions that power critical business decisions. You will take end-to-end ownership of complex technical deliverables, bridging the gap between business needs and world-class data solutions
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and collaborate closely with Product Owners and business analysts to deeply understand requirements, formulate innovative solutions, and evaluate implementation effort with precision
- Design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable data transformation pipelines that meet the evolving demands of the business
- Architect and implement data models and data architecture solutions that are future-proof, performant, and aligned with enterprise standards
- Deliver scalable data solutions leveraging PySpark, Python, and enterprise data platforms, ensuring reliability and efficiency at scale
- Evaluate and prototype new capabilities of the analytics platform, contributing to the development of a single source of truth across our application landscape
- Collaborate across a global development team to co-design and deliver solutions that meet diverse stakeholder needs across geographies
- Support and advise stakeholders on data-related functional and technical challenges, translating complexity into clarity
- Champion data governance by working with the data governance platform to ensure best-in class data management and stewardship practices
- Mentor and inspire a team of data engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, continuous learning, and knowledge sharing.

About You
You are a seasoned data engineering professional who brings both technical depth and a collaborative mindset to everything you do. You thrive on solving complex big data analytics problems using state-of-the-art technologies and take pride in owning solutions from inception to delivery. As a natural leader, you inspire those around you, foster technical growth, and communicate complex ideas with clarity and confidence. You are a self-starter with a positive attitude, strong problem-solving instincts, and the ability to manage your own workload effectively in a fast-paced, global environment.
We Are Looking for Candidates Who Meet These Requirements:
- PySpark expertise — minimum 3 years of hands-on experience (preferably more), with strong proficiency in SQL (Spark SQL preferred)
- Large-scale data engineering experience — proven track record of designing and delivering enterprise-grade data engineering solutions on distributed computing platforms (Spark/Hive/Hadoop preferred)
- Data architecture and modeling — solid understanding of data management fundamentals including data modeling, ETL processes, data lakes, and data warehousing
- Leadership and mentoring experience — demonstrated ability to lead and develop engineering teams, driving technical growth and a culture of knowledge sharing
- Stakeholder engagement skills — excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to justify architectural decisions and explain complex technical concepts in clear business terms
These Are Additional Nice to Haves:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field
- Approximately 12+ years of experience working with large-scale software systems
- Experience with Scrum/Agile development methodologies
- Proven experience collaborating within diverse, multi-location teams of internal and external professionals
- Enthusiasm for working in a global and multicultural environment, with the ability to build strong relationships across geographies
- Knowledge of the Insurance domain, Financial Industry, or Finance functions in other industries
- Strong analytical mindset with a proactive, solutions-oriented approach
Our company has a hybrid work model where the expectation is that you will be in the office at least three days per week.
