Senior Network Engineer

Imagine spending your days creating innovative solutions for an enterprise network setup running in a hybrid model (on-premises, private and public cloud), working with subject matter experts on automating, maintaining, and supporting the Swiss Re company-wide network infrastructure, in a secure and stable way.

 

About the Role

 

  • As the Network automation engineer you will support automation of our global network footprint and you will have a chance to work on cutting-edge solutions used by all Swiss Re employees worldwide.
  • Automate network processes and improve overall code base. Create, develop, and own pipelines for automation. Build and run responsibilities working in an operational setup
  • You will support the existing engineering team in their daily work and take over the responsibility in automation design and transition, to deliver a constantly improving, cost efficient and highly available service.
  • You will interact with the outsourcing partner(s) to ensure that they develop, validate and support the solutions required by Swiss Re and meet Swiss Re security and networking standards.
  • You will look for different and better ways of doing things and actively bring them up with improvement proposals (e.g. network programmability and automation).

About the Team 

The Network Services team is responsible for the infrastructure services (e.g. SD-WAN, Cloud Connectivity, Security Services, LAN & Wi-Fi, DDI, Load balancers) for the Swiss Re global network. The Network Engineering team consists of passionate and experienced network engineers who work in an agile setup across three locations – Zurich, Armonk and Bratislava. We operate the Swiss Re core IT infrastructure platforms which connect people with people as well as people with technology globally and at all times.

 

About You

Essentials

 

  • University degree in IT, engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Network certifications and experience in network administration (preferably in Cisco technologies)
  • Strong drive for automation, knowledge of data formats and data models (YAML, XML, JSON, YANG etc.)
  • Working knowledge of APIs, scripting skills (PowerShell, Perl/Python, Bash)
  • Experience in writing API using Java/Spring Boot. NodeJS knowledge is a plus.
  • Experience with version control systems and CI/CD pipelines
  • Hands-on skills with automation tools (Ansible, Salt etc.)
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and troubleshooting skills related to networking and security implementations.
  • Commitment to quality, care for detail and solution oriented, hands-on attitude and willingness to learn, collaborative, team focus and great communication skills.
  • English language proficiency.
