Senior Process Automation Designer
About the role
As Senior Process Automation Designer (D1) you will own the delivery workstream for robotic automation solutions within the intelligent automation centre team. This techno-functional individual contributor role is accountable for end-to-end delivery (design → build → test → deploy → handover) where execution is performed by third-party delivery partners. You will apply SDLC discipline in an Agile environment to ensure secure, reliable, compliant and business-focused automations that realize measurable value.
Note: This is an individual-contributor role - you will own delivery and decision-making for your portfolio but will not have direct reports.
Key responsibilities
Delivery ownership & SDLC
- Own the delivery lifecycle and acceptance of assigned automation programs: accountable for SDLC gate sign-offs (design, build, UAT, deployment, operational handover) and for producing audit-ready artefacts.
- Translate business processes into automation-ready designs, user stories and testable acceptance criteria; confirm readiness for each SDLC gate.
Vendor governance & quality
- Manage third-party delivery partners for your portfolio — own SLAs and quality metrics, run delivery reviews and regular business reviews, drive corrective actions and ensure structured knowledge transfer to operational support.
- Validate vendor technical artefacts (solution designs, integration specs, logging/monitoring and exception handling) and approve deployment readiness.
Techno-functional assurance
- Provide non-coding technical leadership: review non-functional requirements (performance, resilience, security), review deployment/DevSecOps pipelines and verify observability and alerting.
- Support solution assurance for complex automations in partnership with platform architects (you will validate vendor designs and escalate platform changes to the platform team as needed).
Agile delivery & stakeholder management
- Act as principal delivery owner in Agile squads: shape and prioritize the automation backlog, represent delivery in sprint planning/reviews/retrospectives, and coordinate release planning.
- Communicate risks, trade-offs and status in clear business language to senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
Operational readiness & continuous improvement
- Ensure production readiness: handover to operational support/production operations, define runbooks, SLI/SLO expectations and participate in incident/post-mortem activities.
- Use delivery and run metrics (stability, defect trends, business value realized) to drive continuous improvement and standardization.
About the team
You’ll join the Automation Delivery Workstream, the group responsible for prioritizing, coordinating and assuring the delivery of automation programs. The delivery workstream partners with platform engineers, enterprise infrastructure teams and external delivery partners to translate business needs into production automations and to ensure smooth operational handover and run-time stability.
What success looks like
- Assigned automations delivered on schedule with minimal production incidents and clear business value realized.
- External delivery partners deliver to agreed SLAs and effective knowledge transfer is completed into operational support.
- Consistent SDLC discipline with audit-ready artefacts and measurable improvements in delivery quality and operational stability.
About you
Mandatory:
- 10–12 years of professional experience, including 4+ years delivering automation or digital transformation initiatives.
- Proven experience owning end-to-end delivery where build/run is performed by external partners or distributed engineering teams.
- Strong knowledge of SDLC and Agile (Scrum/Kanban); practical experience as Product Owner, senior Business Analyst or delivery lead in Agile squads.
- Techno-functional capability: translating processes to automation-ready designs; validate vendor technical artefacts and non-functional requirements (performance, resilience, security).
- Practical, hands-on exposure to at least one leading automation platform (e.g., UiPath, Blue Prism, Automation Anywhere) and ability to validate vendor deliverables.
- Demonstrated vendor governance experience (SLAs, regular business reviews, corrective plans) and operational handover.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills across business and technology.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience in regulated industries (financial services, insurance, healthcare).
- Automation platform certification (e.g., UiPath Certified Professional).
- Certifications: Agile/Product Owner, Scrum Master or project management (PMP/PRINCE2).
- Familiarity with monitoring/observability tooling, DevSecOps pipelines and basic scripting/data tools (SQL/Python).
- Experience with IT service management practices (ITSM/ITIL).
Education
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems or a related technical discipline. Exceptional candidates with other degrees and demonstrable automation delivery experience may be considered.
